Calzaghe: "I Won't Make Hatton's Mistakes
I personally cant wait for this fight! I love Calzaghe's style of throwing an unbelieveable amount of shots per fight! I only wish he carried more power!
I dont think this will be a good fight though! Hopkins is rarely in a good fight these days! The event should be good though! Similar to Hatton-Mayweather! Golden Boy, do an excellent job promoting the big fights! They are doing a Hopkins-Calzaghe 24/7 in the run up! I really enjoy those shows! Even though in the Hatton one, they did make it seem like he had a legitimate chance of beating PBF, when he didnt at all!
Super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe has vowed to avoid making the same mistakes as countryman Ricky Hatton when he moves up to light heavyweight division to face Bernard Hopkins on April 19 in Las Vegas.
Calzaghe was present for Hatton's December bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. He tells Western Mail that Hatton let the big event affect his state of mind.
“Perhaps it got to Hatton a bit but you’ve got to keep your discipline and stay cool, calm and collected,” said Calzaghe. “I’m excited about the fight now – and I’ve been told that the buzz is already there around it in Vegas – but I’m doing nothing different.
“My training doesn’t change and I don’t change. I feel under no more pressure than usual and it’s important to stay calm. I’ll get more focused as the fight nears and when I go over to Vegas I’ll keep away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. I’m relaxed, confident and I’m just going to do my business in the ring.”
Calzaghe told the paper that he is not buying into the hype of black vs. white, America vs. Britain or any of the other mindgames that Hopkins is trying to drill in his head. He is planning to keep his cool and focus on winning.
“The way my personality is it’s going to take more than a few words to upset me,” said Calzaghe. “It’s not Britain versus America or politics black against white. It’s a boxing match and it’s me against a guy called Bernard Hopkins, who’s got a big mouth and thinks he’s better than he is."
“He’s going to try and get under my skin but, as I’ve said, you’ve basically got to stay cool, calm and collected. It doesn’t worry me what he says, in fact I find it quite amusing. If he wants to talk himself up then that’s the way it is. It’s not a problem. He’s full of it, trying to get a psychological edge. But I’ve been boxing for 26 years now and it takes a lot to rile me.”

Good info, Boxerboy. Calzaghe sounds real focused and I'm glad to he doesn't get caught up in all the hype or bulls hit.

Yeah! He always performs awesomely when he is against a big name opponent. Eubank, Brewer, Lacy and Kessler! They are his masterpiece fights! Particulary Lacy, who at the time, was perhaps the most heavily fancied!

I think Calzaghe is going to completely dominate in this fight. He really is the 2nd P4P fighter in the world next to Floyd.
