I watched this fight because we had free HBO this weekend. It was a decent fight but Rahman got screwed. This doesn't help your guys' heavyweight division at all.

I wasn't real high on the fight to be honest. It just didn't keep me excited at all. There were times where the fight picked up, but for the most part, it was pretty slow. That is, compared to the little guys that I enjoy to watch.
I did think Rahman won the fight pretty clearly, but he didn't necessarily deserve the win. Neither guy showed me anything worth noting. Like Danny said, it didn't do anything to help clear up the mess that is the HW division.
I'm looking forward to Byrd/Klitschko. I want to see someone get knocked out!!

I actually enjoyed the fight. I'm a big Toney fan, but it was disheartening to see any punch that he landed clean Rahman walked right through. James could really stand to lose a few extra pounds the next time.

I actually went to sleep in the 8th round.. waking up in the 10th, but that was only because the fight came on like at 5 a.m. over here, but it wasn´t the most exciting fight.
I really thought Toney was going to clean the house, but as you can clearly see it just wasn´t enough for him to rely on his skills. He was really out of shape, I knew he wasn´t going to come in like Apollo Creed, but man did he look out of shape. Toney has always made up for his shape with good boxing talent, but it wasn´t enough tonight for Rahman, not because he wasn´t landing, it was because the punches lacked the power to take out a real HW. Rahman did a good job on putting that forearm out there, overpowering him and just simply doing more. Toney was already gassed in the 4th round, the first three rounds were preety good, but as soon as he ran out of air, I knew he would have no chance.
Rahman is a fake champ, and Toney couldn´t beat a fake. Where does that leave us? Well, for one thing, Toney needs to either get in better shape if he wants to beat Rahman in their rematch, or just hang ´em up.. over 75 professional bouts have taken a toll on him already. Rahman is lucky to have this belt around his waist, as soon as he faces a top fit Toney ( which probably won´t happen) or a high caliber HW.. he will get knocked out the ropes again like he did against Maskaev, by the way who is in talks of fighting him again.
The HW is more than dead, I said this before and will say it until there comes a champ who CAN and is ALLOWED to unify the titles.. and then we would need another 7 - 8 good talents in the HW division to be called contenders to the title. But I don´t see that happening right now..
The lightweight divisions are ruling the Boxing Sport right now, and it doesn´t look like it´s going to change for a while, but that´s ok.. some preety good fights in the lighter divisions. Thank god there is PRIDE FC to turn to... boxing is losing ground. It will be years until MMA is established like Boxing, but it´s on it´s way.. and Rome wasn´t built overnight either.

I posted this in the other trhead this morning, but since this one is the more active thread, I'll repost here.
I just watched this fight again on Tivo and all I have to say is "Yuch!" If anyone wants to say boxing's heavyweight division is terrible at this point in history, all they have to do is point to this fight as an example. Two of the top 5 heavyweights in the world and all you get is a plodding, slow, horribly paced match. Neither hurt the other nor was either really close to being hurt. The crowd was asleep for most of the fight. This is the best the division has to offer and they give us this?
I'll admit I was a Toney fan heading in, but if I had to pick a winner, it would probably have been Rahman, though I truly think a draw was the best decision.
It was everything that is wrong with the heavyweight division. Watching this fight with a bunch of friends who have always been boxing fans, it was a general consensus that there is no wonder as to why MMA is growing in popularity while boxing loosens its grip on combat sport superiority. Just terrible IMO.

Truly a poignant moment when you know that boxing on ESPN Classics is the best boxing going right now. And, 20 years from now they'll be showing, for the majority, the same fights. I guess my nostalgia keeps bringing me back to this forum, but UFC is just a click away--on my computer and tv.
