That's because his style was actually very simple and effective.

He isn't a very large man, only 5'11 220 in his prime.

He usually fought fighters 6'4 and up and his technique was quite simple. He had a gift for getting on the inside and pounding a short right into the rib's of his opponent. Larger opponents then hunched over and he would usually go uppercut left hook right hook and it was goodnight for most of the guys he fought.

The problem with Tyson was he couldnt box. He was first exposed in 1990 when Buster Douglas boxed him for 10 rounds eventually KOing him. Then Tyson really got schooled by arguably the best pure boxer since Ali in Evander Holyfield in 1996 and 97.

Once exposed for his lack of actual boxing ability, Tyson's career practically ended.

But he was a brutal KO guy in his heyday.

His body shots to the ribs were insane. Definitely something that should be part of any boxing arsenal. And he did it best.

You'll see that in his earlier days, he was able to use his height to his advantage. He had great head movement and managed to get inside the reach of his opponents...where he proceeded to inflict noticeable damage. His early fights are amazing.

i got the DVD. its just a compilation of several ESPN classics shows. Mike is certainly a wrecking machine in his early days. i have'nt gotten to the second DVD yet. i like the commentary between fights that give a little history on Tyson. i am satisfied with my purchase.

Don't know about Tyson not being able to box, at his best, I don't think any one could beat him! It was obvious against douglas, something was wrong, Mike was sluggish and slow. I've read a magazine article by one of his seconds, that Mike was out till 6 am partying before that fight! He just lost his focus and hunger for boxing at that time. That result was a one off. As for the post-prison Tyson?? He was a shot fighter after 3 years inside. Tyson in his prime was a far more intelligent fighter than people give him credit for! He was excellent fighting on the inside. He very rarely got hit, because his head movement was so good, kept his hands up. You dont have to fight pretty like Ali and Sugar Ray, to be considered a good boxer

there was nothing wrong with Tyson except that he ditched his old trainers and joined up with Don King. i just watched that fight on my new DVD. Tyson comes out same as always, looking for the big KO. he does'nt get it and is taking a beating in the meantime. his face is swelling up like a balloon and his Don King picked cornermen came unprepared to go the distance. they don;t have an Endswell and are trying to keep the swelling down with a latex glove filled with cold water and ice. absolutely terrible.

Yeah I heard about that! What a cheapskate!Absolutely disgraceful, the way Don King treats fighters. They should throw him back in the can for some of the stuff he's done! He's a total scumbag!
It's one of the saddest things the way Tyson turned out. When you see interviews with him when he was 18-19. It's like a compleatly different person

that was something i noticed as well. Tyson as a younger fighter was'nt the maniac he was later on. he let his boxing do all the talking. when interviewed he came across as very humble and professional. in his interviews after he won the title and teamed up with King he no longer possessed that character and had developed into the Tyson we know now.
