Default Ali, the movie

has anyone else seen the movie ALI? its not new but i just bought a copy. i thought it was pretty good, not alot of boxing and i was hoping it would touch upon his training, it did'nt. i thought Will Smith did a good job at playing the role of a boxing legend. if anything this movie has made me want to take a deeper look into boxing's history. Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, seemed like it was a time when the best fought the best.

Thumbs up

I saw it a while back. I liked it. I agree with what you said, Will Smith did a good job of being Ali in the film.

i just watched "Raging Bull", if i were to compare the two i would say that Ali's story is the better one. "Raging Bull" is as violent outside the boxing ring as it is in it. Jake was an animal and you don't ever feel sorry for the guy until the very end when he has nothing left. Ali on the other hand overcame serious obstacles during his time in boxing, you never see him as the bad guy even when he is cheating on all his wives. You never see Jake as the good guy. Two differant people that just happen to have boxing as a common thread.

I felt bad for Jake. He was one of the greatest boxers of all time. He came from nothing and ended with nothing. Oh yeah and De Niro > Will Smith.

De Niro certainly is the more accomplished actor but i doubt he could have playe Ali better than Will Smith did and make us believe it was real.

Ali was a tech advisor briefly with Smith on that movie too if I recall.

And Ali said that it's as close as you can get to acting like he did as far as ring presence, the footwork, etc.

Agreed, Smith did a good job. But NOTHING compares to Ali himself. He was the master of intimidation, theatrics, drama, fear, power, speed, counter punchins, cardio etc.... All in a time when most fighters were just looking to knock someone out.
