Roy Jones Jr. wants Calzaghe on July 21st?
Article here
Even as a Brit, I'm rooting for Jones here, although I don't see him beating Calzaghe. I'd love to see the fight either way though.

Roy Jones wants Calzaghe in July
Roy Jones Jr: "I'll Fight Joe Calzaghe in July"
By Mark Vester
Obviously looking for one final mega-payday, former champion Roy Jones, Jr. is calling WBO super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe to fight him in July. Jones told BBC Wales that he's willing to come down in weight to 168-pounds and even give Calzaghe the homecourt advantage by making the fight in the UK....
Boxing News :: Breaking News : Roy Jones Jr: "I'll Fight Joe Calzaghe in July"
I'd love to see it. Don't know how Roy would fare, but it would help give Calzaghe the legitimacy he needs. Doubt it would happen though.

Is his hand going to be ready in July?

This might of been exciting about 4 years ago, but not only is Roy Jones Jr not even in Calzaghe's class at this point of his career, I really doubt it would legitimize Calzaghe's career as Roy's career as an elite is long gone. If anyone doesn't think Calzaghe is legit, then they don't know boxing. He really needs to fight Kessler. What a great fight that would be.

I hope that Calzaghe will be fully ready for this fight. His hand injury has a little worried at present, but i'm sure he'll recover soon. I just hope he doesn't rush back into a big fight.
But if he's half the best he was gainst Lacy, he'll KO Jones in the early rounds.

He better, 'cause if he lets Jones control the tempo we'll probably see Roy get a UD.
But all that aside, Calzaghe should win.

I totally agree w/ you MTK; Jones 4 years ago would have made for a great fight w/ Calzaghe, but right now I believe it would be stopped much like the Manfredo fight did but w/ much more legitimate punches. Either that or he wins in decision after chasing Jones for 12 rounds.
However, if he fought Kessler that would in my opinion be a much more legitimate fight. Their styles are are tailor made for a very exciting fight; Kessler likes to charge in and brawl while Calzaghe is one of the best counter punchers in the game. It would be hard pressed to expect them to go the distance but however long it did last it would be very exciting until it ended. Unfortunatley w/ all of the contract jargon that goes on in boxing, this fight will probably never happen.

If Calzaghe cannot get a fight against Taylor or Kessler, I see him taking a fight with Jones Jr. Calzaghe will take the fight, because he knows that he will beat Jones Jr. at this stage of his career and because he has a known name.
Kessler needs to beat somebody known besides Andrade, in order to be mentioned in the same field as Calzaghe.

Hmmm. i can't ever see Calzaghe losing in the U.K, but abroad, is a different story, maybe against Kessler, in Denmark, it will even close to call.

The rumor is Calzaghe/Kessler in September. Kessler said he will fight in Cardiff. Apparently Joe's injury will take a little longer to heal.

Roy must need $, he wasn't going places to fight guys when he was in his prime that is for sure. But as usual with things Roy , I would wait till the first punch is thrown to belive it is going to happen. He will probably ask for more $ than Joe would get and the fight will never happen so he can claim he is calling guys out.

Since everybody is calling out Calzaghe for Kessler, then let's make the fight happen. I just want to see it happen so that Calzaghe can whip on him and get him out of the way, once and for all. Then, we can move on to bigger and better fights... like Taylor or the winner of Hopkins Vs. Wright.
