The Contender: Season Two
I just saw that The Contender: Season Two starts next Tuesday night (July 18th) on ESPN. I didn't watch a whole lot of the first season, but I'm going to try to watch this season. The finale from last season was awesome, so I'm going to stick with the whole thing this time around.
Anyone else interested?
Also, here is the microsite listing all the fighters and stuff.

I'd love to see it, but Contender 1 was on one of the major networks. Is that going to happen this time too? I don't subscribe to ESPN.

Very cool. I liked the first season alot. The fighters they had on the show were really good and the fights were all very exciting to watch. I'll def be watching this season.

Yeah, this season is on ESPN. You have to get some ESPN man, I couldn't live without that channel.
AIKA, can you just move this topic to the Contender 2 forum? That way, the microsite will be in there for everyone to check out if they want.

My beef with the first season is that it seems to have sucked a handful of fighters with serious potential for pro careers (Alfonso Gomez, Sergio Mora, Ishe Smith, Peter Manfredo Jr) into a bizarre twilight zone where the only cards they fight on are "Contender" events. All four of those guys have done NOTHING since the show if it wasn't under the care and control of Mark Burnett. It's as if the cast of each season of TUF only ever got to fight in a separate organization expressly for contestants of the show. The TUFC (I realize the T stands for "the", but you get my point). Ishe Smith and Peter Manfredo Jr were both ranked and being groomed for title contention, and now it's like they're not even part of the sport anymore.
This year's fighters should be careful, if they planned on ever being anything more than "The Contender 2 champion."

I'm looking forward to it but I agree with Sit, it does seem that since season one the fighters have gone nowhere (Which is a shame because Manfredo had talent).

Actually, Manfredo Jr. did a stellar job of stopping Pemberton back in February, and is looking a hell of a lot better now than when he was on The Contender. That might be due to Freddy Roach. And Mora actually might have a title shot against Jermain Tayler, so we can't really count him out. Other than these two fighters, you're right, they haven't done anything and it doesn't really look like they're going to. But that's what the show is all about, weeding out the contenders from the prospects.

Yeah, but that Pemberton fight was still a "Contender" event, put on by Mark Burnett. It still had the air of being separate from the rest of the boxing world.
I saw Ray Leonard on ESPN this weekend, and he was talking about the possibility of a Jermaine Taylor fight. Awesome. I hope it happens. They were saying that Mora would have to beat someone else first (which would be televised on ESPN) before he'd get Taylor, but even that fight would restore my faith that these guys aren't having their pro careers ruined by Burnett's reality show.
Leonard also said that he'd bet money on Mora against Taylor. He said "I think I know boxing, and I'm telling you right now with all honesty that Mora wins." LOL!

I still see Manfredo doing something big soon. And yeah, I'm not too sure either if Mora has what it takes to take out Tayler. Manny Steward knows boxing too, so it's obvious who we would put our money on.

Taylor, will dominate Mora if they fight, IMO.

I like Jermain Taylor, but I don't think he will dominate many more fighters to be honest. He just isn't a "dominant" type of fighter. He doesn't mind taking a fight to a decision. I think Mora would give him a pretty solid fight, but Taylor would definitely win.
That will definitely help the situation if Mora gets a shot at Taylor. That will sure make The Contender fighters seem more legit. And besides, this is the best way to grow the struggling sport of boxing. Sugar Ray said last night on Quite Frankly that boxing needs to show the world the top fighters like they used to.
If the world knows who is fighting, they will certainly be more excited to watch the fights.
To make a long story short, my post was off topic, but I'm sure looking forward to tonight's season premiere.

Yeah, I decided to cheer for the blue team after teams were picked because I couldn't stand Michael Clark. It is looking great for the blue team right now.
Both fights last night were awesome! It makes you want a 6th and 7th round though.
I thought the 2-hour season premiere was good, although I would still like to see the entire fight like we do on the TUF series. Other than that, I liked what I saw.

Wow, after watching the training, I didn't think that K-9 would pull it off like he did. That was a pretty exciting fight. The second fight was full of good shots too though! Both guys fought hard, but Bravo pulled it off with all those uppercuts.

Yep, the 2-hour premiere was on last night. I'm sure it will replay sometime before next week, but who knows.
I have a feeling K9 might have been fooling everyone a little in practice. He sure looked like a different fighter once real fight started.
