Default Elite XC Feb. 16: Kimbo vs Tank, Carano (updated)

A fight between Internet-brawler-turned-MMA-fighter Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson (1-0) and early UFC fighter David “Tank” Abbott (9-13) will take place after all.

The fight, which was originally booked for October but canceled when event organizers shut down the show, has been picked up by Pro Elite, Inc., which will feature the heavyweight bout as part of its Feb. 16 EliteXC show.

Nice...at least we know Tank will put up more of a fight than the guy who tapped after Kimbo gave him the evil eye.

In the US, its scheduled to be on Showtime. It could end up going PPV, but its not a strong enough card to warrant PPV.

From the official announcement by ProElite's Sam Caplan.

Quote:
ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned that the long-awaited heavyweight clash between Internet street fighting legend Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson and former UFC staple Tank Abbott is scheduled to be the main event of EliteXC's next show on Saturday, February 16.

The show, scheduled to air on Showtime at 10:00 p.m. ET, is slated to emanate from Miami, Florida. A venue has not been officially announced but the University of Miami has been rumored as a location.

In addition to Slice vs. Abbott, a middleweight matchup between Australian Kyle Noke and former UFC fighter Scott Smith is also scheduled. Antonio Silva and James "Colossus" Thompson are slated to compete on the card as well, in separate bouts.

Abbott and Slice had been scheduled to fight each other on October 12 in Atlantic City, NJ for the Cage Fury Fighting Championships promotion. However, the promotion ran into financial difficulties and was forced to cancel the card. The cancellation allowed Slice to become a free agent, and he signed a lucrative contract with EliteXC soon after.

Well I think this is going to be another 1 minute fight for Kimbo. I was hoping he would have a more game opponent, but I guess a lot of people want to see this fight. Gina is fighting, I wonder if her involvement with Gladiator show disrupted her training at all?

I'm with Ninja. Tank will certainly put on a much better effort than Bo Cantrell, who felt "sick" just before the fight. But let's face it, Abbott is so far past his prime, its not funny. 7 losses in 8 fights over 10 years is just brutal by Tank. His last fight against Gary Turner in April resulted in a ground and pound TKO. There's always the chance that a Tank haymaker lands and puts down kimbo, but I don't think it will happen.

Good to see Gina again too, all of her fights have been good. Especially her fight with Kedzie.

I hope Carano will fight Shayna Bazler (sp?) - the chick who came out wif a guitar. She looks pretty good from the last time i saw her and she's trained by Barnett.

Carano is going down!

If it's free on Showtime then it should be on the fight Network.

Even Tank lands a lucky haymaker it isnt gonna put Kimbo down Kimbo's chin is very good. Easy win for Kimbo I wonder when hes gonna fight someone with real talent.

Tank's main problem was always his conditioning, I always felt if he would train for fight's instead of going straight from the bar to the octagon he would be a real force, he did say before the original fight with Kimbo that he was actually prepared for the fight and was in the best shape of his career, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tank win this and I'm hoping he does since he originally got me into MMA.
