Jake Shields will fight Frank Shamrock "Any Day, Any Weight"
When I first saw this story, I was thinking - maybe he should concentrate on Fickett...but since he was asked about Shamrock, he answered. Shields is the man. I didn't know he would've stepped in for Baroni against Frank.
Jake is one of the reasons that EliteXC has a good future.
I didn't listen to the interview but apparently he discusses the possibility of joining the UFC. I wonder what he said...maybe I'll check it out later.
Quote:
As up-and-coming welterweight Jake Shields (20-4-1) prepares for his March 29 Strikeforce/EliteXC fight with UFC veteran Drew Fickett (31-5), he’s already got his eyes set on a more well-known UFC veteran: Frank Shamrock (23-8-1).
Shields was a guest Tuesday on The Lights Out Show on the TAGG Radio Network, a content partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
“I would do that tomorrow,” Shields said regarding the match-up with Shamrock. “In fact, when there was that whole Baroni thing going on, I actually got a phone call asking me if Baroni didn’t come through would I be willing to take that fight. It was about four days before the fight, and I said I would take it… I was willing to step up on four days’ notice and fight him.“
Shamrock has been quoted previously as being interested in the match-up as well, but only if Shields was willing to move up to 185 lbs. for the fight.
“Without even thinking twice, I would fight Shamrock at 185,” Shields said. “I’ll fight him at 200 lbs. I’ll fight him any day, any weight.“
As for the Fickett match-up, Shields is confident he will earn the victory.
“I think he’s tough; I just think that I’m too much for him,” Shields said. “I’m going to go in there and try to overwhelm him, try to make an example out of him.“
Shields and Fickett are scheduled to fight on the main card of the Strikeforce/EliteXC co-promoted card, which takes place March 29 in San Jose, Calif. The event, headlined by Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le, will air live on Showtime.
Shields also discussed other potential future opponents, the possibility of joining the UFC, and his take on steroids in MMA and the California State Athletic Commission. To hear the full interview, download Tuesday’s edition of The Lights Out Show, available for free in the TAGG Radio Network archives.

I think Shields could be able to beat him.
