I agree that a fighter with just 2 sanctioned fights should be allowed to be built up. But the problem lies in EliteXC shoving the guy down our throats. How many times Saturday night did I have to hear how Kimbo was a superstar? They are the ones making him out to be unbeatable. So its only natural that fans want to see him against better competition. If you're constantly being told what a superstar you are watching, you want to see him prove it.
I like Kimbo and still think he has a good future. But like many, as long as EliteXC continues to push him as this unbeatable monster, I want to see him prove it against better fighters.

Good Post.
Not only that he's been the main event. You want the main event between two top guys.

Holy smokes. Is Kimbo ever going to go more than one rd? I hope Thompson crushes him but its not likely.

The matches they give Kimbo is a Fu**king joke. Why not give Kimbo some sort of weapon, like a gun or something just to make sure that he wins the fight.
Give him someone who actually can fight, then we can see if Kimbo is for real. Let the headhunter take a shot at Kimbo thats the fight everyone want to see.
After the Thompson fight they will probably give him Ken Shamrock...
"OH MY GOD! Kimbo has knocked out a Legend. This guy is for REAL!"

Kimbo is an older fighter as far as getting into MMA. he has to be smart if he intends to retire from MMA and not have to worry about his retirement. In this case being smart means taking fights that make him look good without putting him at too great a risk. It appears Kimbo is building himself up as slowly as possible in order to prolong his career. Signing to fight Thompson is a good choice but still is'nt a guaranteed win. The man has to check his ego and be smart.

Another easy "W" for Kimbo... Atleast I get to look foward to seeing Lawler vs. Smith.

Well it looks like another 'hightlight reel knockout' for Kimbo... Wonder how long it'll be before they give him a decent opponent, hopefully not when he's 10-0 from beating taylor-made cans lol

Has anyone heard any announcement about tickets? When? How much?
I guess the question is how much is it worth to watch James Thompson take a nap.

I haven't received the press release as yet, but as soon as I do, I'll post it. Hopefully, I'll have some discount codes I can pass out.

You're right. With a whole 2 MMA fights, they should make the Kimbo vs. Fedor matchup happen as soon as possible.
It's not Gary Shaw's fault the average MMA fan is borderline retarded.

I honestly can't see this fight lasting more than 10 seconds. This may well be a 1 punch KO for EliteXC's superstar, which is exactly what they want. I'd rather see a 3 round war with 2 skilled fighters than this crap

Exactly! I'd rather see 2 more equally skilled fighters go at it and atleast have some air of excitement about who's going to win. I think we all have a very strong idea about who is going to win, so the question becomes, not who's going to win, but how fast is Kimbo going to KO his opponent. Which is exaclty what the organization wants in order to promote Kimbo more, to the newer and more casual MMA fans. Most experienced MMA fans know that Kimbo would be in a lot of trouble against higher-level MMA competition.

I wouldnt have a problem with them feeding Kimbo cans to build him up, thats pretty common. But when they make him look like this super super star that is just a machine then i get tired of it.
btw have you heard latest rumor, they say that Kimbo is taking to much crap on the internet for not having a groundgame, so now they are gonna give him a real BJJ expert. They have signed Hélio Gracie to face Kimbo. That will show that Kimbo is a well rounded MMA fighter that can hold is own against a sick groundspecialist.
So how about that? I think that would be a big step up from James Thompson.
Im just a little grumpy today...

James Thompson could pose a problem to Kimbo based on his sheer mass. He's a huge guy but he has no strategy going into his fights. Teach the guy some wrestling, takedowns etc. and get him to take the fight to the ground where his chin is safer and his size can be used to an advantage. Add in some extensive cardio and he might find some success. Looks like the former Pride star has become a punching bag for rising stars. Shame.

It is no one's fault but Thompson's that he has become a "punching bag". He has not evolved with the game and his (glaring) weaknesses have been exploited and he has done nothing (at least as far as I can see) to diversify his game. It is each fighter's responsibility to prepare himself for not only a fight, but a career. Sadly, Thompson's career shows no signs of changing its current course and it will become increasingly difficult for him to find paydays as any fear anyone might have had of his "gong and dash" style deteriorates.

Thompson's actually a good opponent for Slice, since he swings and can get KO'ed by a strong gust of wind. Too many people want to see stuff like Big Foot vs Kimbo, and I am wondering why, since all that'd do is ruin Kimbo Slice, since he'd get whomped by a much better fighter.

Oh i agree, its entirely Thompson's fault. I just find it rather sad that such a physically gifted fighter won't put the time in training and make use of that gift.
