Lion vs Tiger
Going with the theme of the recent bear vs gorilla... how about lion vs tiger?
The tiger is my favorite animal, and is slightly bigger on average (depending on the subspecies) however, dwindling populations may be limiting their maximum size.
The lion has the reputation as being very aggressive in certain situations.
Anatomically, the tiger is longer and therefore the lion has a more compact body.
I'd say 60/40 tiger if we take an average tiger vs average lion... at the same size, however, I'd give it 60/40 lion. Lions and tigers don't share the same territory, so I'll say the fight takes place in open space on flat ground.
Anyway, there it is =)
(BTW, I don't condone animal fights... just a hypothetical fight to debate )

Interesting clip, gotta disagree though =)... I question whether the video creators are biased (I say this because the tiger looked to be smaller than the lion, possibly even a tigress).
It is my belief that a large Siberian tiger (600lbs) will win more often than not against a large lion (500lbs). I do give the lion a slight advantage at equal weights however.

Thing is, anyone could have made that video to do whatever they wanted to... we could have had the lion and tiger rolling around over and over until the tiger sinks in a RNC if the creator so desired, entertaining but not conclusive in this discussion =)

Walk around in tiger country and tell me you can sneak up on a tiger, whether lion or not, and I'll love you long time. Tiger's are the king of stealth and evasion...No lion is sneaking up on a Siberian Tiger...Let alone the fact that Siberian Tigers are 9 feet long, not including their tail, and I'll take the tigers side.
Conversely, Lions fight frequently for dominant position...there's something to be said about full-force sparring (coming from a BJJ student)....I'll still take the tiger, just cause I like the mofo's

Certain species of tigers are slightly bigger, but lions are more aggressive and specialize in killing prey that is bigger and heavier the they are where as tigers tend to go after smaller prey. I say the Lion would kill the Tiger in at least 7 out of 10 confrontations.

In general a male tiger weighs anywhere from 440-700 lbs and females from 265-400lbs. male lions range anywhere from 330-500 lbs and females from 260-330 lbs. (from wikipedia) Assuming max weight, tigers clearly have the size advantage looking at these ranges. You note how lions tend to go after larger prey then tigers, and I am not disagreeing, but remember that lions hunt in packs, in a pride. By nature, a pack of lions could safely take down larger prey then one tiger, thats just common sense. I believe your 70% kill rate for the lion is highly inflated. Male vs male is no contest for the tiger. Male lions do nothing but reproduce and intimidate other male lions for dominance whereas male tigers hunt just like female tigers and female lions. Size advantage and hunting advantage for the male tiger. Male tiger wins probably 8 or 9 times out of 10. Now, female vs female would be more evenly matched. Size advantage tiger again but the hunting advantage is pretty even. A pack of female lions are more apt to attack bigger prey but remember its a pack of lions. Lions, consequently, would have much less experience attacking prey one on one. So female vs females is kind of a wash for me. Because female tigers are generally bigger and more experienced killing one on one, I say female tiger wins around 6 or 7 of 10. A tiger, especially male, would beat a lion more then a lion would beat a tiger.
If these animals are at the same size, the male tiger wins 7 or 8 times out of 10 for the reasons already stated and the female tiger wins 5 or 6 times out of 10. The slight advantage is for the female tiger over the female lion because of the more one on one experience for the tiger. When a tiger eats, it killed the prey. When a lion eats, it may have contributed in the kill, but does not necessarily get any more experience if other pack members took care of the kill. I favor more experience.

Tiger wins almost every time. A lot of people don't seem to know much about tigers. Tigers and lions actually do share territory in India. Lions live in the Gir forest and rarely if ever will engage a tiger. Tigers have been known to go after elephants on their own. A male tiger has more fast twitch muscle and is far more powerful than a similar sized animal. Having worked with a friend who was a big cat specialist at the National Zoo, I know that zoo keepers are by far more afraid of a tiger kiling a lion than the other way around. Here in Korea there is a zoo that has several lions and only a few tigers in the same exhibit. The lions survive only through force of numbers. They could never have equal numbers or god forbid tigers outnumbering lions.

Lion WIN!, lions actually fight with other Lions for like leaership and crap, while tigers just kill never really fight and they kill smaller and weaker prey but thats because they hunt alone, also Lions are quicker and stronger, they are naturally stronger just because they hunt big food with like 3 or 4 female lione they have more strenght and the males anturally get that as well, while tigers are weaker compared to a lion, also lions can run faster.
Making Lion the superior fighter because of more expierience.
People who said the video is busted and biased, i am sure the Discovery channel isnt biased.
