If Ken Shamrock was in his Prime now, How would he do??
Lets pretend that Ken Shamrock was born 10 years later and is 33 right now, rather than 43, how would he do in todays MMA world?
I truly believe that Ken would be a top 5 HW or LHW depending on which wieght class he chooses to compete in. When Ken broke into the sport in the late 80's fighting in Pancrease there was a major lack of quality training partners as well as opponents to test his skills. Now there are MMA camps everywhere that train fighters for all aspects of the sport. He would have surely benafitted from all these additional resources that fighters coming into the sport in the past 5-6 years have acsess too. With Ken's athletesism, strenghth, heart and his aptitude for fighting, there is little doubt that he would be a top contender in todays MMA landscape.
What do you guys think??

I have always liked Shamrock-I can even forgive him for his defection to 'comedy wrestling'... )
There is no doubting his heart strength and will to win but I feel that he did make such a name for himself as he was involved in the UFC when no one or should I say few people where as 'proffesional'as they are today.
I feel in answer to your question he would do ok but maybe not the force he was.I mean no disrespect to Ken Shamrock but if he started 10 years later (and was 10 years younger ) his major advantage of experience would not be there and obvuiously his oppenents would be that bit better.
My heart says he would be top 5 but my head says maybe he would just be average.

Ken's biggest problem is that he's set in his ways and that he never evolved completely. If he had started later I think we would see a more well rounded Ken Shamrock, which would be very scary.

I think he'd look like a bigger Frank Shamrock. He'd be very impressive no doubt.

Ken Shamrock was always successful when fighting as a heavyweight and not having to worry about cutting weight or train so hard to make the weight limit for the 205 devision. He ran into trouble when he started trying to fight lighter, started over training and having nagging injuries, and giving up power in leu of making weight.
I think that if he stayed as a heavyweight and fought his style of fights, he would be better than 85% - 90% of the fighters today.
Was he set in his ways, yes, he was...with good reason though. He was successful and if its not broke dont fix it. However, it didnt work out when he went to a lighter devision.
I wouldnt mind seeing him fight again at heavyweight to see how he would do honestly.

You make good points about Ken that didn't cross my mind. He always came off a bit slow in the lhw, but in HW it might be his bread and butter. To be honest and I hate to say it but, he is to old now to find out int top competition. If he stayed in hw would be of been a cool thing to see.

Well, like a lot of people have mentioned before, he left MMA at a pretty important time in its development. Ken is pretty good at adapting, but he had too much catching up to do after leaving the WWE. If he had stayed in MMA all this time, I think he would have done amazing.

Yeah but if Ken was 10 yrs younger he would be even better due to better training facilities, techinques and training partners.
I'm not an expert but I reckon he'd be top notch still.

Ken is a pioneer in the sport. Nothing can take that away from him. However i don't see him as being athletic enough to compete with the guys today. Just looking at his record its obvious that success has eluded him since the mid 90's. his record padded with early victories in Pancrase and the UFC.
Fight Finder - Ken "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Shamrock's Mixed Martial Arts Statistics
he has'nt accomplished anything in recent years. I don't see a Ken in his prime today doing much better against the likes of Tito or even the younger generation coming up. He was never a good striker, always burdened by being overly muscled and his cardio has never been worth talking about. A Prime Ken Shamrock today would have trouble breaking top 10 in LHW and would'nt be on the map at HW.
