p4p at the moment id have to say silva. i think bj needs to show more than just amazing potential and start beating a number of top guys
in an actual fight at 185 id definitely pick silva

Penn has potential, but so far he hasn't done anything to prove he is the #1 p4p fighter in the world. He hasn't really beaten many top guys as of late. He is 2-2 with his last four fights which were a loss to GSP, a loss to Matt Hughes and then wins over Jens Pulver and Joe Stevenson who I wouldn't exactly call top-tier fighters. The #1 p4p fighter in the world definitely should go to Anderson Silva, he is currently 6-0 in the UFC and has wins over top guys like Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin (twice).

So i guess BJ's victories over Gomi , Hughes , Sera , Renzo , Din Thomas , and Uno mean nothing. I guess you guys are right , BJ never fights top talent. Id still pick Silva to win , but to say that BJ has potential and doesn't fight top talent is ridiculous.

By potential I mean potential to be considered #1 p4p in the world someday. He is already a proven fighter, I'm not arguing that. What I said was he hasn't done anything lately to be considered the #1 p4p fighter in the world. He is a great fighter with a great record, there is no doubt about that - but should he be called the #1 p4p fighter in the world? I don't think so. In my opinion Anderson Silva is more worthy of that honor. |

I read on another forum (rumor mill, sorry) that Silva was thinking of dropping to 170 to face tougher competition. He's big, but he's fought at that weight before.

serra, renzo, uno and thomas are good fighters but arent really "top talent"
bj's victories over gomi and hughes were over 4 years ago
i think bj is great but right now, anderson silva has a much stronger claim for p4p #1

I think the fact the BJ can go up in weight class and prove himself worthy to fight any man is incredible. I wouldn't count that man out in a fight against Fedor. He is truly amazing. With his new training methods I consider Baby Jay unstoppable almost. If he could get Silva down, or even in his guard he would Choke him out. If not Silva by Decision. Baby J got a chin.
