Default The role of a trainer

aside from dishing out very general advice here at Fight Forum i train people in general fitness and MMA conditioning. in my brief experience there are several types of people out there looking for help for differant reasons. since i get paid to do this(in most cases) you try to accomodate everyone's personality but on occasion there are people you just can please. i am sure that everyone who decides to hire a trainer has differant ideas of what to expect. that brings me to my question. how does everyone here view the role a trainer should play when you choose to work with one? be it a MMA trainer or just a personal trainer down at the YMCA.

I have a personal trainer who helps me with my weight training. I hire him for the his experience and ability to maximise my strength gains, Also I find I push harder with somebody there.
I also have a personal trainer for MMA. He is great for spotting where I am going wrong and how I can improve my technique increasing my speed and power and over all preformance.
I just started last week with my MMA trainer and I will be spending 5 Hours a week with him. After 4 sessions with him the diffrence in my elbows, shoots and punches is astounding.

I need motivation and advise, that's what I need them there for.

It's easier for them to push me then for me to push myself. Like Rampage said, you won't go anywhere w/ yes-men.

I think the role of a trainer should be fairly personal. Not be afraid to tell you what you suck at and what you are good at and work on those areas. I am not into MMA training yet but when I get into Muay Thai, If I suck at it, I would expect somebody to recommend me to BJJ or something different.

I make provisions most trainers don't make for their students.
I do most of the sparing. When they make a mistake the get tagged. I take a lot of shots, hard shots. I expect my students to go 100% all of the time, even when sparing.
The role of a trainer is sacrifice.
