i think you can train in both at once assuming your interest is to fight and not master whichever arts your learning. besides BJJ is all grappling while Boxing or Muay Thai is all stand-up. they don't overlap in technique so there is no confusion. most top fighters train in both grappling and stand-up during the course of the same day.

It's also a question of what kind of shape you're currently in. Any martial arts class worth its salt will be a brutal workout, but if you're looking to actually work hard and make progress, you're going to want to attend more than once a week. So if you sign up for two martial arts at the same time, will you be able to handle, say, two or three classes a week in each?

Maybe start with either BJJ or Muay Thai (doesn't matter which, they're both excellent), get a feel for that first one and get into better shape as you train. Then decide if you have the time and energy to add a second one, or if you should just keep focusing on the one you started with.

If there's an actual mixed martial arts school near you, that would be good too, because they train you in a mix of styles and balance them all.

It doesn't matter, neither really gives a good base for the other.

Well, if you want a good MMA base, I think you should take BJJ, judo or wrestling, preferable BJJ. After that, recommend take Muay Thai or some other good striking martial art, like Tae Kwan Do or some form of Karate.

Once you have feel competant in both, I would recommend going to a dojo that cross trains. Now that is all assuming you really only want to learn one side of martial arts at a time. The best thing really to do is find a good local dojo that teaches MMA (pankration or some other cross martial art training dojo.)

well i do mixed martial arts. BJJ is grappling on the other hand kickboxing is striking id say do them both! a grappler and a striker going at it chances are the grappler will probably win but a grappler striker is even more powerful so youo can fight on the ground or standing up! do em both!
