Default Worst sports injury you have had.

I have been doing Thai Boxing for about 2 years now. I'm hopefully getting to the stage where I am going to be entering some Amateur competitions soon.

This means when I have sparring sessions recently they are getting a bit tasty aka PAINFUL.

Here is an example of what about 8 rounds of absorbing decent leg kicks can do.

Anybody got any pics or stories of what they have come away with?

Just to add,yes i was trying to check them, but the guy i was sparring with was too quick half of the time,or I chose to absorb the kick so I could reply with something quicker.

Here is my foot after kicking the same person on the hip full blast. I don't know who it hurt most. We both had to stop after that kick. The swelling has gone down a bit too!

in the short term unless you get a major joint or bone injury your bumps and bruises will heal.

in the long term look forward to arthritis in your knees and ankles due to the repetitive nature of your chosen sport

Why, thankyou for your depressing input. I might take up knitting instead.

I know they are only bumps and bruises and I have much worse to come.

Anybody else have any injuries? Come on,there must be some gruesome ones out there.

Torn ACL, MCL, and lateral meniscus while playing football. Ended my athletic career. I've developed patellar tendonitis in my "good knee" (probably from favoring the other all these years) and post-traumatic arthritis in my "bad knee". Needless to say I'm 27 and I walk like a 60 year old before I'm warmed up.

I folded my left leg sideways at the knee joint like a folding chair once. It completely tore my ACL, damaged my MCL, tore the meniscus (spelling), and chipped some bone so that there were little bone fragments floating in the joint. Not fun to fix. Long surgery and lots of rehab.

wasnt trying to depress anyone just the facts...

I broke three ribs,4 toes , aprox 75 stitches, torn quad, ....

loved every minute of my time in the ring ...

even though somedays i whine and complain would not change it for a thing.

there is something thrilling about watching a guy go face first into the canvas after you boot him in the head

My worst injury was from playing squash, it's nothing like some of the above injuries but I tore my abductor muscle and needed physio.

Got kicked in the head playing rugby about 10 years ago. No major damage, just a couple of stitches.

Tibeal Plataeu Fracture of the right Knee. Tore my ACL,tore some cartilage off the bone and shattered the bone that broke off. Got 3 Stainless screws in my leg and had to walk on crutches for 3 months with PT for about 6. To this day it still bothers me when it gets cold and when I workout. Left knee hurts now from overcompensating with it and lower back gets tight from bad alignment. Oh yah,I'm only 27 years old and I feel like I'm 85! This happened exactly 14 days before my 21st B day. When I was 24 I completely seperated my left shoulder. This one don't hurt too much only when I lift or sleep on it wrong.

I havn't really had any horrific injuries, I've broken my femur, collar bone, fingures, seperated my sholder, and this knee injury that I don't know what exactly it is yet.

The most pain full endurement I've probably gone through. Was when I was mountain biking, and got flung off my bike by hitting a rock, after landing a gap, into a bunch of cactus plants, but I'd probably concider that more so needle torture rather than an injury.

I know your pain, Gazbrook. I took a kick to the back of the knee this summer that was so hard my whole leg from about 3 inches above the knee down to the heel turned black for about a week. Everybody who saw it was like, "what was so big that it hit you and bruised your whole leg?" But it was just one point of impact and I guess it crushed a bunch of blood vessels or something. Fortunately, that's my worst sparring injury. *knocks on wood*

Sitnspin, that's pretty much how my bruise started and it just spread. After reading some of the injuries people have had,I will stop being such a pu$$Y,lol.

I see breaking anything bigger than your toes or nose, as a pretty bad injury.

I will put money on my nose getting broken at some point. I don't have a pinnochio nose, but it's far from a typical Thai Boxers nose.

Same here. Haven't broken it yet, but I'm sure I will. When I used to box it was a rule that we wore headgear when sparring. When I started at Chute Boxe I brought my headgear, but no one else was wearing it. I wasn't going to be the only one, so I left it in my bag. No one's ever worn any, so eventually I stopped bringing it. Mauricio insists on a mouthguard, but that's it.

My worst sports injury was either my broken hand from a shoestring catch in center field or torn quadriceps during a soccer game.

But being an athletic trainer (sports physio for our non-American members), I've seen more than my fair share of gruesome injuries. From fractured dislocations of ankles, elbows, wrists, and a knee, to brain tumors causing severe seizures, I've seen an awful lot. Just last week during a football game that I was attending as a guest of the medical staff, I saw an open dislocation of a middle finger. Amazing how white bone truly is. I've relocated at least 12 complete shoulder dislocations. At a football game this past Monday, I evaluated and EMS-transported a player for a possible neck fracture (he ended up okay) and dealt with the broken clavicle that I've attached below. Sports injuries are simply my business.

That makes me feel sick. It sounds worse than a lot of the breaks I have heard so far. Hopefully the pain didn't last too long.
