As My First Fight Looms
I am breathing heavy, I can hear my heart and my fight is still 12 days away. I am nervious, excited, confident and scared all at the same time.
I dont want to sound like a prat but I dont care if I win or lose. I would rather have a hard loss than an easy win. Thats not to say I dont want to win, I used to raced motorbikes and love winning. I am just very egar to get into the ring and put into action what I have been training for for the last 5 months.
Any body out there who has had a fight got any tips for me so help me chill the **** out?

Never fought MMA. But in my TKD days and Amateur Kickboxing days, I used to listen to music that motivated me. For me? I always tried to take a fight with the mindset that it was for real. By that meaning, that a fight is something that is a threat to you and your family's well being.
For me that was all the motivation I needed, albeit on a very amateur level.
But it worked.
I have the nice cheesy trophies and medals to remind me about it everyday.
Good luck, you'll be fine

im doin the opposite, i have no striking skills and am stickin to grappling tournaments before making the leap to either kickboxing/mma/boxing...honestly i havent thought too much bout what i will do
btu i love grappling, and honestly alot of grappling tournaments are run casually and you dont really get nervous just anxious ya know
i like your mentality though, i feel like it will accompany you in your fight and youll do what you do

LOL, funny you should say that.
My kickboxing instructor and I who have really good striking? We went to the Gracie Tournaments in Santa Cruz the last two years. We bascially lost badly, but held our own I guess.
But when we watch as spectators? We are in awe just how well some guys are grappling. We sit and with our jaws dropped say to each other
"Man these guys can defend themselves".
Even though we know if we smacked one of them they'd have problems. Lol. But it's a respect thing. I just love really really good grapplers.
Probably because I suck at it.
LOL

I love Boxing and will do it for the rest of my life. I guess I feel about it the same way you feel about BJJ. I may get bored of it however and switch to something else only time will tell.
I know what you mean about the grapplers some guys are insane.

to help calm your nerves use deep breathing techniques. Control your breathe and remain focused on the task at hand. Get in touch with your nervousness and keep it under control. This will help you more if you start practicing these techniques for 15-30 minutes a day, right up until fight time, even as you listen to the ref's instructions moments before the bell rings. This will help you stay focused and not waste energy on wreckless thoughts and emotions.

I usually bury myself in a good book when I need to settle down. If that doesn't work I try to find something around the house that needs fixing. Basically anything that takes most or all of your attention to get your mind off of what's getting you amped.
