UFC Workout in Mens Fittness This Month
If you all haven't seen this month's MensFittness (not to be confused with MensHealth), you should go out and get it. Dana White's on the cover. Really great read, and the UFC workout is pretty kick ash too. I did a lot of it last night...and I have to tell you I was whooped; especially the medicine ball circles. Ironically, that was the exercise I thought would be the easiest...due to my upper body strength. And, strength wise I did have it, but by the 15th rep or so my arms felt like they weighed 200lbs...lol. Here's a link, go check it out...and get that magazine. It's a nice magazine and it's only like 10 bucks a year to subscribe too. UFC Workout II - Men's Fitness
I really like to do something like that on Fridays, to change things up from the mundane. I lift Monday and Wednesday, and then do something different on Fridays...so, it doesn't get boring.

these exercises are excellent and work great when combined with more traditional weight training programs. There really is an incredible variety of exercises available for those willing to step away from the bench press and squat racks. I am also glad to see the single leg exercises getting some recognition. Single leg strength and stability are so important and yet so overlooked by many athletes, especially those who don't have access to trainers who use a variety of methods.

So the best is to do that and some traditional weight? Because I want to change my program and maybe start this one.

Yes. A well balanced weight program, core exercises and cardio. However, this particular program mixes all of that together. Especially, if you do all three workouts on different days of the week. It's designed to have minimal rest between sets. It starts with having you do three rounds then tells you progress to five rounds. Because of some limitations I have, from an old car wreck, I can't do all of the exercises, but I do most of them or combine some of the workouts. I have to tell you. I was surprised at how winded I was and how sore my shoulders were yesterday. Really great workout.

You don't have to but many people choose to. Its often times very difficult to get people who have been training in a traditional manner most of thier lives to suddenly give up bench press and squats in favor of more unusual but equally effective training programs. What Smashing Machine is doing is a very common way for people who enjoy traditional exercises to mix things up. Traditional exercises like the bench press and squat are great exercises. They build incredible strength and mass(if needed). More functional exercises take the strength gained from traditional lifts and transform into strength that is useful for fighting or other sports.
