Default Fight Medicine

Injuries are part of combat sports, so what better way to take care of yourself than to know what is what when something goes wrong. Here is what claims to be the first book to take on the subject of Fight Medicine.

Book looks good. should be a top seller with the amount of injuries and strains fighters get. I know we get enough questions on this forum.

i'm sure its a good read. Doubtful that its something that will be a huge seller, although i imagine i'll be getting myself a copy soon enough. Certainly a great resource for coaches and trainers. I'm against self diagnosis but if you can understand an injury, maybe you can better prevent it.

Yeah thats why I said should because I dont belive it will be a top seller even though it should be, Because like you said it you can better understand it and its treatment the you should be able to prevent it. We all know that prevention is key.

Very true. i was actually just watching a DVD this morning that was part of my Inner Circle program that i belong to. It was a circuit training program for Judo. The guy doing the circuit was Anthony "Pooh" turner a 320 superheavyweight. The trainer, JC made a point that these circuits, unlike sparring or actual Judo practice, really remove the risk of injuries like rolled ankles and other common injuries. Just another way of preventing injuries and keeping his guy ready and safe so he can compete in the Olympic trials for Judo.

Its one of the best things i ever subscribed to. I don't recall when it all started, sometime in 2006. The stuff i've learned i don't think i could've found anywhere else, especially up in my part of the country. Great program all around. Especially the material that has to do with combat sports and lately there has been alot of it.

It sounds like a good piece of resource information. However, my only problem with books like these are that you have a professional (in this case a DO) who knows what's going on giving bits of information to those who don't fully understand everything that could be going on, and thus end up with a lot of self diagnosing; which could potentially lead to very serious problems/injuries.

i agree with this. Obviously the best defense in case of injury is to see a doctor. But like you said, this sounds like a great piece of resource information, not a substitute for medical attention.
