Default General Advice

Hey, being new here I went looking through this forum looking for just a general advice thread and surprisingly enough didn't find one. Possible that I missed it, in which case feel free to yell at me for being stupid. Anyway.

I figured there should be a thread dedicated to just general knowledge, any specific tips or tricks that people have learned in their time. Things to avoid. Common misconceptions and myths. Different things of that nature.

Just something to post all of the little bits of knowledge that have been handed down to or taught to you.

I myself am 16, I weigh about 150-155 depending on what day it is. I am as skinny as most people that weigh 130, and maybe a little stronger than your average guy/kid my age. I've been doing light working out all my life (albeit a short one to this point) and I've decided I would like to get more serious with it, I've started gradually working out harder. I've started taking martial arts (Ju-Jitsu) to help get me there as well as learn some skills.
My point being thus far I don't really have much to contribute myself.

That being said, feel free to dispence advice.

Well if you wanted adivce on gaining weight because you said your skinny, your with me. Ive had success the past few months though.http://www.defrancotraining.com/arti...s_westside.htm
I based my weight training routine on that 2 weeks ago, not even. I have gained about 2 solid pounds, going from about 137 to 139 on average(my weight varies day to day like yours). My maxes have all gone up. And i took some advice from people on the board and started eatin much mroe then i used too. I used to think i ate alot, but i was really basically being ignorant, so i opened my eyes thanks to this board and startred intaking so much more food then usual. Hope it helps, good luck, and welcome to the boards.

I'm about 5' 8" and still growing. I will probably end up being about 5' 10". Average, not tall.

Which is why my weight is puzzling to me. I weigh 20 pounds more than anyone my size really should yet, I don't look it. I'm not vein enough to say "its all muscle" or along those lines.

Anyway thanks for the specific advice. I do appreciate it.
But I was hoping this thread would just be an place for ANY advice to anyone such as
"Don't do ____ it will cause _____" or "A common misconception is that ______ when in truth ______"

Just a thread for anyone looking to gain some knowledge can come to read through and get some general tips on anything.
I do however appreciate the tips. I'll look into this DeFranco thing.

First off, at 5'8 155 pounds is about as light as you want to be

Second, This is the general advice I give to a lot of people training. Be honest about it. Telling some guy you just met that you bench 300lbs is fine as long as you and the people you are training with don't think it to be true. If you are doing an excercise and see that no one is looking and you can get away with only doing 8 instead of the 10 you were supposted to, don't do it. The only way you can get the best results out of training is being honest about it. You have to see what you have to work on and really work on it.

Third, Look for some posts by rugger. He has alot of advice to give and knows his stuff.
