Default How long training

How long did you/ most people usually train before getting their first amature fight in MMA or boxing. Ill be turning 18 in a few months so i can legally MMA fight but i dont wanna rush into something and get KO'ed. So how long training hard 3 days a week, totalling about 6 hours technique work a week should i train before a fight. Just wondering to see the general trend...thanks

figure that UFC fighters train 6 days a week about 5 hours a day. training in both grappling and striking on a daily basis. i would say that at 6 hours a week you have an uphill battle in getting ready to fight. of course if you watch some of the smaller promotions that are on a much more local basis you might already be training more than the guy you could be fighting.

Are you talking about how long should you take from the day you begin your mma training (having not trained before) to when you should have your first fight? If so, whoever you train under should be able to gauge your skill level and let you know when you're ready. Some people get better faster than others so just ask your trainers.

Oh please, it depends on the person who is training, who's doing the training, and the type(s) of training they are doing. Everyone is different. Some have been ready in 6 months, some I train with won't be ready in 6 years LOL.

i think one year is a good baseline to go with if you're serious about fighting and train hard 3 times a week. however, alot has to do with attitude and mental toughness. those are two aspects of the game that are tough to teach and are what usually stalls a fighters progress.
