Default Work out routine

This post comes mostly from wanting to know what thepanu does. I've heard kettlebelle(sp?) is good but I'm not sure what it is. So instead of Hijacking Guile's "what time do you work out" thread I figured Id start a new one to share our work out types.

I do basic weight training, nothing special.
Then I do some boxing on a heavy bag for about 45minutes using a Bas Rutten tape. The one where he yells out combos. After that I'll jog/bike for a half hour unless I don'nt do the boxing thing in which case I go for an hour/45min.

Then I have martial arts classes 3/4 nights a week.

I like this thread because I would like to know how other people train. I usually do light weight lifting followed by some Cardio. I've read there are some big dudes on this forum. I'm only 5'7" and about 215lbs, built like a fire hydrant. I train in TKD, kickboxing and just recently BJJ. Thinking about NAGA in Hawaii in SEPT. I think I need to take off about 15 pounds or more to compete at a lighter weight. Can any of you guys who compete and drop weight give me some tips?

I'm 5'9'' and a measly 158. Low body fat though so I'll be mainly muscle. I've been gaining at a good rate since Ive been lifting and expect it to go up once I start taking some creatine and stuff.

Don't know anything about cutting weight cause thats never been an issu

Correct spelling is Kettlebell, kettlebells. Or just using its original russian name Girya.

Here are few good articles which should give you a some idea about what to do with them.

My program is as follows:
10x Right arm swings
10x Left Arm swings
10x Double arm swings
10x Right arm clean and press
10x Left arm clean and press
10x Right arm bent press
10x Right arm bent press
10x Alternating squats
10x *Double arm press, squat and rollback
10x Hindu pushups
30x Hindu squats

I do 4 rounds like this with total time in around 30min.

*I don't know name for this move, but it is basically just as follows: Hold your kettlebell with both hands, curl to chest and then press over head. Lower it using the same route and then squat and roll with your back, then stand up again with hands straight kettlebell between your legs.

I have been using 10kg(22lbs) kettlebell so far to correctly learn the moves. But today I'm going to post office to pick up heavier one, 17kg(37lbs).

Up till now I have been doing that program three times a week (mon-wed-fri). But Now that I have heavier one as well, Im going to change it a bit.
Mondays: 6 repeats per set, 4 rounds with 37lbs kettlebell
Wednesdays: 10 repeats per set, 4 rounds with 22lbs kettlebell
Friday: 20 repeats per set, 2 rounds with 22lbs kettlebell

In about month or so, I'll consider increasing weekly excercises to 5.

In addition of those I currently stretch every night for 30min. I haven't ever really liked stretching, and because of that especially my hips have been very tight. Now I have decided to do something about it. Should see some results before end of summer.

I'm pretty short, only 5'8" and 193lbs so I think I need to bring my weight down to 185ish. Have some bellyflab I need to get rid off.

Thumbs up Please see...........

Hi Panu,

Nice routine, However can i suggest somthings ?

Remember it takes anything upto 48 Hours for muscle to recover fully with the help of increased protein so dont be scared to take that extra long break now and again, Otherwise you rmsucles will get weak and you will pull them all of the time.
Also please see "Stretching - Splits" in the "Fight Workouts and Training" forum as i have listed on Page 2-3 an ideal stretch for the hips

Happy Days

unless you're a body builder i don't see why a fighter would train with weights more than 2 or 3 times a week. Marco Ruas was asked why he does'nt lift weights more since he claims to be able to gain lean mass easily. his reply, "i am a fighter, not a body builder.".

For numerous reason I have to drop a few excercises every now and then. And at the moment I don't train anything else, just trying to get back in shape before fall.

I dont think that anyone can gain muscle accidentally and I think there is still room in my body for lean muscle. So I don't see any real threats in training with weights.

If you don't believe me, check out this guy. He trains with 80lbs kettlebells and he is just ripped. Offcourse, he has done it for years, but still.

Has anyone read Combat Conditioning by Matt Furey? He has some pretty brutal exercises/workouts in there. It is important to mix strength training and power training. My workouts usually consist of using moderate to lower weights at high repetitions. You can do them at a faster pace or a slower pace. Faster builds power...slower builds strength. I do a lot of the "power-lifts" because they incorporate several muscle groups. I mean, really, when's the last time you picked someone up with just your biceps? I'm also trying to incorporate core strengthening with every workout. Plyometrics once every week to ten days. Cardio around five days a week. I plan on squeezing in an-aerobics as well.
