Default Need some general health help

I searched around and couldn't find these things covered or just a "general" question thread.

I have been drinking a lot of water daily. I usually drink at least a gallon a day. I was wondering if you can have too much? Is a gallon a day good? Or should I have more or less?

Also I was wondering if there are any former smokers out there with some tips that actually work besides "cold turkey" because that just isn't happening. Do patches actually work? And I'm not a gum chewer.

I've seen patches work well for people, but the common problem is that they don't see the whole program through. They decide they're ready to try it without the patch, and in a day or so, having a cigarette seems like an okay idea again.

There's also a prescription drug called xyban that curbs cravings for nicotine. Talk to your doctor about it.

Can't really answer the water question. A gallon a day seems okay to me, particularly if you're working out.

Cool lazer

Try the laser cure. I have seen it work. It gets rid of your physical addiction. All you have to deal with is your mental.

A gallon of water is good. If you are taking any supplements and working out is exactly what I would suggest. You can never drink too much water. The only thing that would be better for you is if you squeeze some lemon in it. (Not the stuff in the plastic lemon) the real stuff.

If you're working out hard every day, then no, a gallon isn't too much. But, if you're not it might be a little on the high end. I stick to around 80-90 ounces a day. A gallon's somewhere in the neighborhood of around 128 ounces. That's nearly a 2 1/2 pound difference in consumption. Too much water can flush everything like electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, etc, right out of you and be potentially very harmful. I used to smoke anywheres from 3/4 to a 1 1/2 packs of Camel Filters everyday. I did the cold turkey thing most recently and I've also weaned myself off of them. The first 2 to 4 weeks are the toughest. Personally, I think it's more of breaking the habit than addiction, but different things affect different people in different ways...so, maybe you should try the patch or something similar.

Yeah, you can. There have been cases where people have flushed so many electrolytes out of their system that they've actually died from it. I'm sure, the number of incidents are few and far between, but too much water can be dangerous to your health.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't do real hard workouts yet so maybe I'll cut back to a half gallon for the time being.

I think I'm just going to try the gradual thing. I know that's how a lot of people end up never quitting but I have done pretty good this week. Taking my smokes out of my car has helped and I can't smoke in my apartment so I have to go out of my way to do it. Now if I can just convince my self I don't need those couple "relaxers" throughout the day as much as I think I do.

yeah, it's a tuff process weaning yourself off of cigs. If it weren't bad for you (lol) I'd still do it. I liked it, but it made me feel like crap, it stinks, and ashes get everywhere. Good luck my friend.

If you're working out or training at all, I'd recomend more than a gallon a day.

As for smoking, cut down at least one cig a day until you're only smoking about five a day. When you reach this point start spacing them out more and more. Watch the clock and try to go longer between smokes. If you go two hours between try to go two and a half or three hours before the next one and keep building it up.

Based on what? A gallon is a ridiculous amount of water. I realize Franklin drinks a gallon a day, but his full time job is training, and even he acknowledges that it's a lot of water. Tell us what your rationale is for why anyone who's "working out or training at all" should exceed that.

Yes too much water is no good..the mian ruel you need to remember...try not to drink to much water pre workout...the best thing for pre workout is gatoraid...if u drink water only u will dilute the K+ concetrations in your blood...a protein shake sould be fine also...but after any type of sweating, you nned to replace the vit and electrolytes lost, so you need somthing like gatorade....
