Default Learning High kicks?

hi folks, i dont train in MMA officially but work myself on learning techniques, i was wondering if you can give me advise on giving high kicks, so far i can only kick like chest high with a normal roundhouse kick, my leg bends and my knee clicks. i thnk i could do with stretching my legs in a manner to extend the groin muscles in order to gain more height, what do u think?

the main thing for a high kick is control. you dont want to be throwing your leg around. it helps to throw the kick out very slow and hold it out. this helps your balance and your leg strength. stretching is also important. it takes a while to be able to get it perfect. just keep practicing. good luck

proper high kicking technique is probably one of the most difficult techniques to learn. not only do you need flexibility but you also need strong muscles throughout the range of motion. to properly execute high kicks practice,
repetition and proper body mechanics are all equally important.

Here's a breakdown of a Tae Kwan Do backleg roundhouse.

1. Bend the knee, pulling your heel to your butt, keep your knee high. You knee is what aims your kick
2. Twist your torso and pivot on your lead foot
3. Extend your knee at the end of the rotation and as with everything follow through as if your kicking right through your target.

And also like you said, the better the stretch the higher you can kick.

1. Learn proper form.
2. Strengthen your hip abductors and adductors
3. Stretch, a lot, I use a VersaFlex by Century Martial Arts.
4. Practice kicking the bag and holding your foot there for a couple seconds then kicking a little higher and doing the same routine over and over until you can't go any higher. This is an active strenthening exercise.
5. Also, when kicking regularily, focus on how fast you can pull your foot back...this will give you a lot more "snap," with your kicks.

I forgot about that, that's very important. Also getting it back faster keeps from getting it grabbed.

The same principle applies to your jab, which makes sense. Too many people, when they're at home punching a heavy bag, think only of landing the punch and they don't consider how it's equally or more important to pull your fist back into guard as quickly as you threw it. I hadn't considered that the same is true for kicking, since I haven't trained in a kicking style since I was about 7.

Allow the ball of your foot that is on the ground to turn as you follow through your kick. You don't want to leave your leg in the air as you admire your kick. Try to keep your arms up. You'll naturally want to sling your arms to counteract the movement, but don't forget to protect yourself. One had for the head, the other ready to protect your junk.

thansk alot guys i think i need to stretch the legs first b4 i can get that high , iv had alot of leg injuries through football, i tore my acl, whih clicks everytime i extend my knee, hurt my groin, think iv broke my ankle it only takes someone to tap it and it hurts like hell, plus only bends in one direction without hurting and also my backs still sore from my crash ha ah we never go to the doctors here in scotland even tho we have a free health service.

i will get my bag and pratise some stuff on it, iv looked at various kicks to get the movement right, vera shows good examples but looks pretty outstretched, i did the same technique for submissions and submission set ups, that seems to be working pretty well

I also have my wife, who's a PT, stretch my legs. From time to time. Kinda nice.
