Few quick questions
1) What is a good thing to eat for breakfast/lunch/snack/supper which do you like to eat?
2) Do I workout before or after I take my protein shakes/bars etc?
3) Which excersises/drills can I do at home that will help me with my MMA?
4) What do you drink besides protein shakes?
5) Which would be better biking on a trainer(staying still) or running outside?
Thanks guys

all very good questions... im sure people will add a ton but id say
1. ill skip #1 cause im not that good with that myself
2. it is best to have a little protein before and after to facilitate muscle growth, however, more after.... so maybe a quick snack with carbs and protein about 45 min before, then a shake after...
3. i dont do mma, but im sure someone can help u there
4. an energy drink could help, or something with creatine and l arginine such as no xplode to give you a little boost
5. running is always the best, you exert far more energy... if you have issues with knees, or other injuries then go with a bike

1) Eggs, No fat plain yogurt, protein shakes, skim milk or 1%, oatmeal, high fiber cereals, fruit...are good breakfast foods. Lean meats, spinach and other dark veggies or really bright veggies like red/orange/yellow bell peppers, protein bars, whole grain pasta, whole grain bread, no fat cheese/low fat, string cheese...low fat/no fat, plain almonds, peanuts, peanut butter...etc...Menshealth's site has really good diet suggestions too. Basically, stay away from junk food, starchy foods, high saturated/trans fats, avoid high sodium.
2) Take protein shakes 30-45 mins prior, without added sugar, and take them immeadiately after your workout with some form of carbohydrates...I use gatorade typically. L-Glutamine is a great thing to mix in with your protein powder too, after a work-out and just with water before bed. Creatine's good also.
3) bodyweight exercises, stretches, plyometrics, watch the pro's and how they do things.
4) I drink a lot of water. 2 to 3 liters a day usually...more on harder workout days. Water's key...it keeps you hydrated, supplies your nutrients to your body's cells and flushes the crap out of your system. Other than that, I will drink a glass or two a day of skim milk, and sometimes a no sugar energy drink, green tea...sugar free, and occasionally diet soda.
5) well, this one is a toss up and personal preference I think. both are/can be great. I do some of both throughout the week, running that is. You can do a wide range of things with a machine indoors, youre in a controlled environment and injury risk is a lot lower, but physically...reproducing the real thing is hard to do...like I said, I like both. Hope I've helped. Good luck.

You said to take the gultamine before bed. I was told to take it in the morning. Does it make a difference?

I do take it every morning also, I forgot to mention that. I take it with protein after my workout...along with a carb mixture, and then I take it again before I go to bed. On non-lifting days, I take it in the morning and again when I go to bed.

1) I eat a bowl of Oatmeal for breakfast along with a GNC Mega Men Sport Dietary Supplement - Glucosamine supllement.
After my morning workout I drink a glass of 100% Whey Protein. By Midmorning I will eat something like a apple or pear.
I take GNC Thermo Cardio System Supplement with some kind of lunch - chicken breast-Fruit.
In 3-4 hours I Box then I'll have another glass of Whey Protein and maybe a apple or pear.
3-4 hours later after a work out that includes a Run on my bike, I'll have another glass of Protein and a fruit and take another GNC Supplement
2) I have to take my drink after I work out - you can take it before or after depending on how you feel.
3) Skip~
4) Water - maybe I'll drink some tea. Never.. Ever drink Soda of any kind..
5) Both is fine.. the thing about running on a bike inside is you can do it before and or after your other work outs. Which is what I do.. I normally don't workout outside.. if you can though you can try doing it twice a week.
Try doing diffrent things for atleast a week. Then you can all ways look back and say .. "Now I know what works and doesn't work"

Negative
This is when you want to get a good amount of carbs in due to the spike in insulin that occurs (for me post workout is really the only time I make it a point to get carbs in). Insulin helps to transport nutrients to your muscle cells and they certainly need all the nutrients they can get after eating.
These carbs should also be something that is high on the glycemic index as opposed to the lower end carbs you should eat throughout the rest of the day.
and to add a little to smashingmachines good advice some of my personal favs. are cottage cheese (My breakfast normally consists of plain cheerios with fat free cottage cheese plus a couple slices of wheat toast (or something along those lines)).
Keep the peanut butter to natural PB.
And FISH. Fish is a great source of protein and essential fats. Tuna is a great fast healthy snack that's packed with protein.

If I don't have oatmeal, I'll have a 4-5 Eggs and some toasted whole grain bread. I'll end it with a Banana and water.

well regardless of any of that, i can assure you that carb intake prior to workouts along with some proteins certainly help to provide fuel and facillitate muscle growth... without carbs your body has nothing to use for fuel so intaking some prior is certainly important

Your body burns up glycogen during workouts, and after workouts is the only time you should take it to replenish the sugar in your body...otherwise your body will break down muscle to get what it needs, and that is counter productive.

grape nuts period...lol...it's higher per serving in fiber than even oatmeal; which makes me happy because I'd much rather have a bowl of cereal than oatmeal.
