I agree, the double end bag is essential.

A good solid KO punch involves so much more than just speed and power. Pushing off your back foot, timing your hips torso and shoulders, accuracy and punching through your target. Look at the Fedor/Crocop fight. Alot of times when Fedor missed he ended up behind Crocop. There are alot of fighters that are exceptionally strong but can't do any damage with their punches.

Yep, it helps defence too and I hope everone relizes that you can't knock someone out if you are lying on the ground unconciouss.

It's what i call the toying tool.
The One pUnch KO is sorta a myth even with the best punchers/kickers.
But I'm sure McDojo owners can fill up an afternoon on how to deliver one just to get you to sign in to their BS!
It's all about bobbing and weaving baby!

Really? I heard that to but than again i saw some MMA fighters training and they all had wieghts in thier hands that they were punching with.

i will say this, it is proven that using resistance when training the movements involved in punching will improve power. its been measured at the Institute of Human Performance using MMA fighters. the type of resistance used is very important, they did not train exclusively with dumbells in hand while throwing punches. they do some work with Dumbells in hand but only to improve strength and stamina in the shoulders. the training that is done to directly improve punch speed and power involves medicine balls, resistance bands and quite a few high-tech machines that are able to closely duplicate the range of motion used during strikes.

What kind of workouts would you have to do to improve speed and power with medicine balls resistance bands etc.

Hello fellow fighters and enthusiasts.
I would like to address the one punch KO.
Direction and distribution of force are crucial.
The most effective point of contact. Place the index finger on the corner of one side of the chin. Place the other index finger on opposite side temporal mandibular joint, just in front of and below the external auditory canal.
The trajectory line formed by these two points of contact are the correct angle for efficient knock out strikes.
This angle of attack exerts all of the force onto the single TMJ and not distributed equally between the two.
Improper angle or direction of force may allow for a less solid strike by allowing the jaw to slack upward or over, absorbing some of the force.
Practice this with a good sparing partner, have him indicate when the more solid shots are landing so you can adjust your accuracy and increase the probability of a knock out.
To a skilled technician the knock out punch is an art, not just power and luck.

its not difficult, just use the Medicine ball for throws. start with two handed throws using a 10-12lb ball and work your way up in pounds. after doing this for awhile you can beging throwing heavier balls and also add one arm throws that duplicate as best as possible, the punching motion. as for resistance bands, they're great for this. you can just take a light band and work on differant punching motions. Not just straight punches only since the bands allow ranges of motion that duplicate most any type of strike. the idea is to train the movements in a way that is as close to the real event as possible. the problem with dumbells is that you have to slow the weight as well as accelerate it to avoid joint injury. with a band of a medicine ball you can throw as hard as you like. less hard with bands unless you are hitting a target to avoid overextending you arm.
