Celery, carrots, apples, bananas, yogurt (sweetened w/ fruit and no added sugar), dried fruit (I like mango and apricot), meal replacement / protein shakes, pickles, ummm... anyone else?

well i'm not a healthy eater, but my personal trainer used to have me eat a cup of cereal w/o milk
this was a couple years ago, but you can get something like honey nut Cheerios, or frosted flakes. kinda high in sugar but low to no fat.
but i'm a fat guy that doesn't like fruit or veggies as a snack.

It's good for a burst of energy, but unfortunately the sugar used in those commercially produced cereals is high fructose corn syrup. It causes your body to pump out insane amounts of insulin -- more than it can use. What it doesn't use converts into fat stores. So some of those sweet products that claim they contain no fat will actually make you fatter than products that contain some fat but no sugar.
Look at it this way: Jellybeans have zero fat, sodium, or cholesteral. How many jellybeans would you recommend someone eat if they're trying to lose weight?

i eat apples, bananas, tuna in a pouch, fig newmans( a better version of fig newtons), a variety of bars, ready to drink Myoplex shakes, dates, beef jerkey, carrots w/hummus, cold cuts, dried fruit without added sugar or of the sulfered variety, i'm not to picky when it comes to snacking.

i understand this, but i can't sit there and eat a banana or celery. so instead of chips i eat cereal.
and one cup a day is not that bad. if you don't want the sugar then eat some without sugar.

Oranges are great. Better than drinking orange juice, because the processing required to make it juice brings out more of the sugars. You always want to try to eat fruits and vegetables in their natural state, and oranges are perfect for that.

I drink a lot of supplemental meal replacement shakes and it not only gives me energy but gets me pumped up for late afternoon/early evening workouts especially on my cardio days.

i was over at Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site. forums and read alot of people saying that oranges arent so good because the sugar spikes your insilin level and prevents fat loss. ???
who knows...
anyways....
ive been eating vegetable trays..
and bought some cucumbers and celery sticks to replace the stuf that was in the tray when its gone.
its actually alot more filling than i thought. and not so bad tasting either.
i can deal with this for awhile i think..
well see...
been snacking every 2-3 hours on those veggies then working out then 40-50 mins of cardio.
havent weighed myself in 2 weeks or so but i can feel the change already i think.
well see.
cant wait to get down to my fighting weight so i can enter my first fight !

If you are trying to shed pounds stay away from the starchy fruits and vegs. I like bannanas for fruit. My favorites are protein pudding (no sugar) and/or protein bars (low sugar to no sugar). Peanut butter on a piece of whole grain bread is good too.

i'm not sure about the oranges but i know my lacrosse coach would not let us eat too many oranges between quarters. he always had oranges there but only let us have 2 slices. he played college sports but i'm not sure what his other background was.

I will have a bannana with a vitamin water. If I have a bagel it will have peanut butter on it, usually that is mornings though. Raw nuts and sushi are good snacks too. If ya really want a good snack routine look up Razor Rob Mocallough, this guy has great meal suggestions.

I usually snack on fruit. Bananas are about the best, oranges seem to do nothing at all for me, apples are so bland that they can bring dieting down a bit, but I still eat them. Pears seem to give me more energy than any other fruit, and when they're ripe they taste great. It's good to switch it up, too. Mangos, kiwi, different types of apples and pears, and in the summer some watermellon or cantalope.
Does anybody have any recommendations for Energy bars? I run a mostly cardio/calisthenic routine so I don't require as much protein as anybody lifting weights, and I have no interest in gaining muscle.

Hey Sitspin sorry I have not been on for awhile. If you can get a hold of january's edition of Ultimate Grappling there is a great article in there about Rob and what he does to stay in shape. Great suggestions.
