after sit's motivational words, i sucked it up just to get through this routine of 10:1 9:2 ect ect no matter [u][i][b]how[b][i][u] long it took me lol...

i was wondering for some others who tried how long it took to get through a cycle starting at ten, and what are some good realistic goals time wise to shoot for...

i intending on sparring and doing some boxing stuff after this but now im just gonna lay here for awhile instead lol

It's hard to list a time that's ideal, since a routine like this is really about testing your own conditioning and then trying to better yourself each time.

Look at the hundred burpee challenge. When that was introduced to me, I was told that someone in good shape should manage a hundred in less than ten minutes, and if you could do it in five you were in really phenomenal condition.

Forget about it! The first time I tried, I did a set of 20 burpees, rested for about 30 or 40 seconds, managed 10 more, and I called it a day. As far as I'm concerned, you can't call it a burpee if your legs won't even propel you off the ground anymore.

The next time I did it I thought I'd just do 10 burpees per minute, and that would allow me to get through in 10 minutes total. Nope. By the time I got up to my seventh set of 10 I needed a lot more of a rest than that schedule was allowing for.

I didn't have any kind of timer on hand when I tried this burpees / hindus routine, so I'm not sure how long it took me starting at 10 and 1. Maybe 15-17 minutes? I'll try and time it more accurately next time.

But don't worry about comparing your time to anyone else's. Just do the routine every now and then and consider it a benchmark for what kind of shape you're in, and be proud of yourself when you shave any time off.

Okay, I did it today in 13 minutes. There were some long rests as I got towards the end. It's a funny routine, because just as the burpee numbers get low enough to be manageable, the hindu pushups start getting harder. For my 9 and 10 pushup sets, I confess that I couldn't do them straight through and had to stop (and I can do a solid 40 or 50 regular pushups under normal conditions).

I did the routine when I was fairly fresh -- just after skipping for five minutes and stretching for between 5 and 10, and then I went straight to it.

And just to taunt those of us who are battling this routine, here's a kid doing 100 good burpees in 5:40:

I hate those guys. If I could do that stuff, I'd get a spandex suit and officially declare myself a superhero.

just wondering if i should try to do this with a smaller # like maybe 5 not 10?
or should i be doing the 10 cause i think with 10 i'm resting too much to get a good workout.

It's tough to say. I'd recommend that you push yourself. Try not to rest any more than you absolutely have to. The site that I got this off of is frequented by a bunch of hardcore nutcases who wear weighted vests to do one-handed pullups, etc, so I know if I told them it took me 13 minutes to complete this starting with 10 burpees and one pushup, they'd laugh me back here. These are the guys managing 100 good burpees in five to seven minutes.

I think I'd recommend that you stick with 10:1, because even if it's taking you longer, you're still doing more total work than you are if you start at 5:1. GSPalltheway and I are suffering with this routine, but we're making ourselves do 10:1 and just trying to shave time off the more we do it. So I'd suggest the same for you. Don't stress about how long it takes you, just get through it -- even if you're breaking up that last set of pushups into three at a time. The more you do this, the easier it will get. By the time you can burn through the whole thing with a maximum of a 30 second rest between each combo of burpees and pushups, you'll be in visibly better shape.

I did it in 11:30 today. I had to pause 1/2 way through my final set of pushups, but other than that each set of burpees and hindus was uninterrupted. Breaks between started out at about 15 seconds and capped at under a minute.

I really feel like a lot of the challenge is mental. I bet I could shave even more time off, and maybe even get it down to ten minutes, if someone was standing over me not giving me any choice but to get back at it. As it is, when I'm on my own and running out of steam, it gets way too easy to give myself an extra 20 seconds or so.
