What happens to my elbow if i hyperextended it (longterm)
I'm 17 so my body heals pretty quickly compared to older people. But i was wondering what would happen long and short term to my elbow joint if it was hyperextended to the point where it completely snaped backwards. At my age would it heal within a couple of months or would i have serious long term affects?
Same thing with getting choked out. If say i don't tap with a choke and get choked out what (besides getting knocked out) affects will be associated with this long and short term?

Its always best to avoid injuries, if just for the time spent recuperating. You don't want to burn out while your still crappy, wait until your decent before you start accumalating injuries.

fighters in BJJ, Judo and MMA have thier arms broken/hyperextended all the time and they seem to heal enough to continue on with thier careers. for example, "Shogun" Rua has his arm all messed up from that mishap during his fight with Coleman, he is healed and as good as ever. on the downside, if you continually have any area of your arm injured you can bet that when you start getting old you're going to have more aches and pains than the average person until the day you die.

I've heard that it's when you dislocate your elbow that you may have long term problems with it.
But, I've never had it happen so I dunno.

some people believe that when your elbow joint is hyperextended it "pops the capsule" so to speak. that the damage is permanent. i think if this was the case anyone would been armbarred would'nt be fighting anymore. certainly its not good for you but as long as you limit the amout of time your elbow is at risk then you should be OK. make sure you tap in practice and be sure not to train with guys who crank an armbar without giving you a chance to tap. in competition its differant and i have heard of guys in Judo having both arms broken in one match.

My elbow hyperextends. It extends to about 190 degrees, which makes armbars much less effective against me

when someone cranks on an armbar they're not going to stop until you tap, even if that means bending your arm til it snaps. don't put your joint at risk because you feel you have an extra 10 degrees to work an escape.

Yeah, but sometimes people get submissions when an armbar isnt put properly, so it takes a really good armbar to make me tap.

I hyperextended my elbow when I wrestled in high school. It popped out and right back in immediately and hurt like a S.O.B. I went to the trainer who told me to go to the hospital to get it checked and that the doctor wouldbench me for a few weeks. We had a tournament coming up that weekend so I blew off the hospital visit, iced it off and on for most of the next two days. When it came match time I had the trainer tape it and wrestled in agony. We had a saying in wrestling, "Tape heals everything." Don't you believe it! I am actually in pain at this moment. It has given me problems for the last 16 years of my life because I was unwilling to wait out two weeks off the mat.

i hyper extended my elbow 2 years ago in rugby, in doing so i snapped part of elbow socket away, not enough to pin back on thou so they ave left my arm completely un operated on, was very painfull for about 3-4 months, 2 of those it was near unmoveable, but now i have full movement, althou it does ache sometimes but thats expected, im only 26 so i guess the more severe aching will come in future. they expect the bone to attach back to my bone sumhow, gyax is prob the man to ask about this, but thats wat the doc told me, but as us brits and irish now, our health system pretty much sucks, ave been told thou if my arm everlocks straight i must go straigt down and they will operate,
