well if i can hit you and you can't reach me, then you have to get closer. the closer you get the more options i have.
thats all i can add to this thread

But look at Sylvia vs Couture, Sylvia had an incredible reach advantage but Randy dominated him in the standup.

don't worry, i'm a fan of tim. cept when he has the belt.

i'm just saying look at sylvia vs. monson. if they had the same reach, monson would have won.

And that's why I don't think Randy's going to be able to handle CroCop. CroCop not only has a reach advantage, he knows how to make full and scary use of every bit of it in a way that Tim doesn't.

Reach is a pain in the butt to overcome. THe punches get there too soon and even if you have good defense, it doesent really help against a guy with reach. And forget it if he hits you full blast with those long limbs

Your only hope vs. reach is what Randy did to Tim.

Strike First, Strike Hard and No Mercy Sir!

That and a ****load of body lock's on the inside and inside trips.

speed beats reach... the ability to bob and weave and use footwork can overcome any reach

in boxing reach is a big deal, in MMA its less of an issue. there are so many techniques available to set up strikes. the Monson v. Sylvia fight is a good example of reach making a differance but i think had Jeff altered his game plan in the third roud he could have made Tim pay. Monson could have faked a shot and come at Tim with an assortment of differant strikes. he did'nt and it cost him. in MMA reach can be overcome with a solid strategy using all of the tools.

Reach tends to be inversely related to wrestling ability (but not neacesarilly jiu-jitsu). See Semmy Schilt, and Tim to a lesser degree.

Yeah, I agree. I think Monson could have knocked Tim out in that fight if he had of been more aggressive and faked the punch/shoot more often.

Well, the way that reach is measured is idiotic anyway. They really need to measure shoulder to fingertip insead of fingertip to fingertip.
