User CP problem
For some reason, when I click on my "User CP" link on the forum's (red) links area at the top of the page, it crashes my browser. It has happened a few different machines as well. It only happens with the User CP link. I surf all around to other web sites and it is not an issue. When I come back to the Fight Forums and use that User CP link, then it crashes the browser. I have no clue what would cause this, or why it does it with just that one link.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone know what can fix it? It sucks to click the link and crash the browser. Anyway, that is the problem. I hope it gets fixed. I was in the chatroom last night for the forums here at the Fight Forums, and I kept getting booted when I clicked the User CP link to check on my recent threads list.

Well, I cannot explain it, but I am having trouble with the Fight Forums. At first, I thought it was the User CP link, but that was wrong. I seem to have access to the Fight Forums for five minutes before it crashes my browser.
I use IE6 on Windows 2000. When I try to log on using my other computer, which is IE7 on Windows XP, the Fight Forums will not allow me to log in. So, I cannot post from the machine that I share. And, I have limited access from the computer that I do not share.
I am curious about whether this is a Fight Forums issue or if there was a recent update to the forums that is in conflict with my IE6 on my Windows 2000 computer. But, I cannot figure out why I cannot log on from my IE7 on my Windows XP computer.
Also, these issues exist only for the Fight Forums. Actually, the Fight Forums and the Football Forums, which use similar or the same forum software. The issues do not come up on any other forums or websites that I routinely visit. I just spent hours surfing around trying to repeat the issue. But, the browser crash only happens here at the Fight Forums (and over at the Football Forums).

Well, I seem to have fixed the log in problem from my IE7/Windows XP computer. I am not sure what I did. I logged in, but the page that opened did not show me as logged in. I clicked a link to check the current topics from the Quick Links and the page that opened had my data at the top saying "Welcome subgenius" and all that. So, there may be some sort of bug in there somewhere.
Anyway, I will have to post from this computer from now on. I am planning to upgrade my other PC to Windows XP. I hope that will eliminate the crashing issue with the browser. Otherwise, I am at a loss. I ran several anti-spyware programs and anti-virus programs (including TrendMicro.com). My system is clean and running properly.

Have you tried Firefox ? I'm running their latest version and havn't had any issues with it.
Have you ran a Spyware checker on your system ? Cleared Cookies ?
Could be one little bit of info screwing up the works..

I started out with Mozilla .. Years ago and havn't used IE since. If anyone hasn't tried Firefox ... do your self a major favor and get it.. the use of Tabs in your browser alone will change the way you surf.

IE7 on Windows XP is nearly identical to Firefox, tabs and all. I get tabs with the Yahoo Toolbar on my IE6. But, I have had IE6 on my Windows 2000 computer for a long time. I run several types of spyware protection programs. I am 99% sure that this is not spyware related. I have always been mindfull of spyware problems. Also, I know that Yahoo Toolbar can be a problem. My version comes equipped with Norton Anti-spyware built into it. I have had it for three or four months with no problems.
All this time that I have been a member here at the Fight Forums and I have never had this browser crash problem. But, I think MadOne may be right -- one little bit of bad code is causing a burp or a pause in the browser and it causes a crash. I can only assume that it is happening in the cookie exchange. For some wierd reason my IE6 and Fight Forums cookies are conflicting. I have resisted switching to Firefox because of all the problems that I see other people have gone through with Firefox.
You guys may be right. I may try the latest version of Firefox on my Windows 2000 machine just to get around this problem. Otherwise I have to use my Windows XP computer, and that is usually being used by my girlfriend. So, I would have to wait for an opening when she is watching her soaps, LOL.

For it to crash on forums that use the same Forum code... in this case vBulletin it seems to me it would be some kind of script error or for some reason a old cookie is confusiing the browser.
I uninstalled a Google toolbar (I think it was) when I picked up this new system. You might be like me, when I have some kind of problem like this I just can't stop till I find the issue..

I am now pretty sure that this is a vBulletin problem. I did a search for "vBulletin browser crash" and quite a few pages popped up dating back as far as 2001. A lot of these problems popped up in 2004, and Firefox also crashed for a number of people. I did not see any fix data, but a lot of people complained. It was an update to vBulletin, from what I was reading, that caused the problems.
Also, I am actually shocked to be able to log in and post right now. I tried to log in a number of times, but was constantly redirected to the main page without being logged in. I clicked a few links to see if it would show me as logged in (as I mentioned above), and got no where. I then went to my homepage, surfed some other sites, and then came back here to see if I could log in. Guess what, as soon as I opened the main forum page, it said that I was logged in.
I sent a e-mail to the forum mods/admin because I thought I would be locked out and unable to post here to discuss the issue. I am just 100% confused now. This is only happening with vBulletin forums.
