New to MMA
Hey I'm new so don't be too mad that it is another person asking for help :P. I just started watching UFC at the begining of my school year (September) and I immediatly got addicted to it. I'm 16 right now and want to start fighting right away. I was thinking of taking BJJ and Muay Thai. I love the grappling of BJJ and the leg kicks of Muay Thai. I want to know if this is a good combination and if I should add anything else into it. I can't start till after Summer because of surgery in my jaw, so I got time to be fully prepared for these fighting styles. What should I learn first and what should I start working out right now, I'm not in shape at all.

Check my David Meyer thread. It's the most technical BJJ you can learn, everyone else, is gonna not care. They'll run you with a bunch of BS of MMA , but not show you the actual technical aspect of fundamentals first. They might show you how tough they are etc, but not actually show you how to begin.
Guys like John WIll and David Meyer, as well as an occasional visit from Bas, will.

Do they teach any schools, and if they do where. That looks really good, but I'm still not sure if I should take Muay Thai or BJJ first :/.

If you're in high school right now your biggest opportunity to begin developing skills essential to MMA is right under your nose. Tons of UFC fighters and lots of champions have high school wrestling as their MMA base.

Start when you start -- don't worry too much about what you have to do to prepare. I suppose the fitter you are the better, so get your cardio in and eat healthy. I agree with Daniel that your high school wrestling team is a great place to learn skills, get stronger, and compete.

Agreed~! Wrestling is a great start! I would say go w/ BJJ because ground work will come easier than stand up.

I say concentrate on the Wrestling right now, and maybe take 2-3 days of Kickboxing a week.. later you can round it off with BJJ.

The only thing with the wrestling is that I'm gonna be a junior next year and isn't that too late to start. Since everyone else has been wrestling since they were like 10. My highschool wrestling team isn't that good either. I also wanna know if there are any schools out there that you would reccomend me taking over the summer for wrestling.

Learning is learning. It doesn't matter if your school's team are state champions or not, but if you don't know how to wrestle and you want to learn, go try out for the team. You'll get stronger and faster and more agile just from attending practices, and who knows -- maybe you're a natural.

I agree w/ SitnSpin. It's not to late, join wrestling even if you're a Junior. What you'll learn there is better than not learning anything at all.

Yeah. I'm 40 and doing the AAU wrestling thing. Mostly with collage and high school kids. Rough on an old man. Keeps those lateral muscles in shape. The ones that don't stay developed naturally when you age to a certain point.
