The Front Kick
why don't we see more front kicks in the UFC? The times i have seen it used it appears to be a good weapon to keep distance between you and your opponent as well as generally annoy him. Much like a good jab, only with more reach.

We learned it in Krav as an effective means to stop someone as they aggressively approach you to inflict harm. Just aim it at their solarplexus (spelling?) and fire! I also enjoy seeing the front kick properly utilized in MMA. It's one of those MT techniques that just kinda fell by the wayside I guess Maybe it's easier to catch and therefore leaves you open to be taken down?

I've always wondered why we haven't seen more front kicks to your opponents front leg knee. If foot stomps are fair game, why not knee strikes? Its very painful and really does a nice job of putting your opponent off balance, opening him up for a wide variety of attacks.

I agree, especially a post front kick. However some recent examples of it being utilized brilliantly?
Liddell vs Jardine. Everytime liddell would attempt to close the distance on Jardine and approach with those odd angular punches, Jardine threw a front kick. It didnt really hurt THe Iceman per se, but it most definitely threw Chuck off balance enough to make his attacks ineffective.
Of Course
Couture vs. Tim Sylvia. Randy off the bat blasted a post front kick to big Tim setting up that overhand right that dropped that big boy on his back. ANd Couture basically never let him back up for 25 minutes.
Both men used a variation of the front kick effectively and I agree with Crash it should be used more if for nothing else than a setup similiar to how the jab is used.

front kicks are your best friend in MT. I think that in mma, if you utilize it too much or your timing is band you'll find yourself single legged or shot on in a second. its one of those, they puch you kick, they kick you punch kind of things.

Its funny because one of my casual MMA fans always says "Why don't they ever use front kicks!?!?!" a lot whenever we watch an event together and when he watches someone use it effectively he gets excited and yells. Just funny too me.

I like the front kick. I think Huerta has a pretty good one. I liked when Chuck through one against Horn.

I generally use the front kick (teep) in MT to the front leg of the opponent, either the knee or just above. Its a great way to stop them in their tracks.
I prefer not to strike any higher up, in case my leg gets caught and then the person sweeps my other leg or pulls me closer and elbows me in the face (ouch). I guess if i was a bit quicker at striking with it and returning to normal stance I would consider throwing it more.

Stephen Quadros: Well, he's getting his ass kicked.

I think That In MMA they could be utilized more in lower regions of the body. If it is performed correctly then there is a lesser chance of being taken down.
