Defending the Guillotine
whenever ive had someone try to tackle me where they get their head next to my waist im always able to put in a guillotine
i hear often that experienced fighters are able to avoid the guillotine fairly easily, so i was wondering what the technique is for doing this

There are several. We practice a submission reversal at our school where we actually submit the person attmepting the choke! The best defense is to protect yourself against the guillotine to begin with.

Wrist controll. Don't let them lock it up. As long as you can get wrist controll before it's in tight, you'll be fine.

I find easy to get out by controlling the wrists and barreling your head with a roll to the other side. Works well with a takedown as it puts the person you are competing against offbalance.

Ok...
I posted a response to standing guillotine defense, so if that's what you're looking for, search for it in this forum. In terms of guillotine defense once you are trapped in your opponents guard, here goes.
Immediately get your outside hand on the wrist that is choking you. You first priority is to alleviate the pressure on your neck. Let's say that your outside arm is on your right side. So now that your right hand is pulling down on his choking arm, take your left hand and reach across and wrap his opposite shoulder over his trapezius, in this case, his right side. Once you are there, tri-pod up onto your head and two legs, driving your shoulder into his face/neck area and start to work your head out. This will cause extreme discomfort for your opponent, and if he continues to try and finish the submission, it will only tire him out. It may take some time before you pull out of it, but as long as you remember to keep the pressure off of your neck the entire time and keep the shoulder pressure on his face, you'll get out Another thing to look out for is the moment you get out. Your extended left arm over the shoulder may be a potential target, so as soon as you get out, bring that elbow in tight. Remember kids, keep your friends close, but keep your elbows closer! Hope that helps!

If you're looking to avoid getting your neck wrapped at all, just keep your head up when you shoot, and once you've penetrated, look across his back, grab his legs, and take short chopping steps to the side while scooping his legs up and out to the side. This way, even if you he manages to catch you in a guillotine, you've already cleared his guard and are therefore out of danger. Also, anything with your head inside runs minimal risk of getting guillotined.

for standing guillotine defense you can also immediately grab the wrist and reach around with your other hand and grab the back, step around and go for the take down, if the person still has you in the guillotine when you fall to the grounds clasp your hands together behind him and put pressure on his neck with your shoulder
