Hey grapplers, gear question...
So what kind of headgear do you use?? I have the basic Asic set, which kinda works, but doesn't really adjust enough and ends up pulling down and cutting my ears and effing them up pretty bad. Any suggestions??

i have to agree with the other post i dont really use head gear when i grapple are you talking a piece of gear like NCAA wrestling head gear or do you mean something like boxing gear so you can practice strikes too if that is what you mean i have just used regular kickboxing or maybe even a boxing one but i prefer something more like the kickboxing ones and if you are just talking wrestling headgear and you are having issues with that one messing with your ears or what not just try a different set not to sure if that is what you were looking for?????

I'm talking about the wrestling headgear. The set that I have kinda blows, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any other specific brand of headgear.

sorry bro to be honest with you i used an aasics headset when i wrestled in school the only thing i can tell you is talk to some buddies who either wrestle or grapple and see what they have the big disadvantage is headgear isnt sold at a lot of places so its not like you can go somewhere and try a few sets on like at a footlocker or something unless you have a store that sells fight/wrestling equipment near you i have to order most of my stuff online nowadays sorry bro

Hey man, no problem, thanks for the help anyway! My Asic set simply doesn't adjust correctly and pulls down, cutting my ears up pretty bad, and the last thing I wanna get is some nasty flesh eating bacteria in there. I hear ya though, it is hard to actually get your hands on some of the stuff you wanna buy before you buy it.

No need for it? Haha, do you know the pain and lifelong disfigurement of cauliflower ear? I haven't been wearing them lately, and it's starting to get bad again. There's a few different companies that I've gotten reccomendations for, I'll update when I pick a set up.

Most of my guys always liked the traditional Cliff Keen headgear. Multiple thin plastic straps helped keep it in place much better than the wide straps. And I was always a fan of the snap on, rather than the Velcro straps which always come loose.
The Brute's are terrible for staying in place IMO.
Asics are decent, but run into the Velcro issue a lot.
Of course, personal comfort is most important.
Some like the Cauliflower ears and wear them like a badge of honor. But they can often get bad enough to lead to hearing issues and frequent ear infections.

Lol, I know that pain. I have head gear but generally don't wear it. I try and get my ears cut when they swell up but if I do that then I miss out on atleast three weeks of training. I know your pain bro!

In high school we used the Cliff Keens for the first two years but switched to the Matman Halos my junior year, which really sucked. A lot of use made our wrestling coach dig our old headgear back out of our equipment room because the Halos were just too uncomfortable for anybody that had cauliflower ear, big ears, or ears that stuck out. The Cliff Keen are deeper so they don't putpressure right up against your ear, stay in place much better, and have a foam cover over the ear piece that make them fairly comfortable. Hope this helps.

For real man? I **** bigger than you. I'm looking for help for the cauli ear thing. Not everybody is into the "look at my ears, I'm TOUGH!" look. I'm not looking to get into a pissing contest with internet warriors, I'm looking for information...forgive me.
Please be kidding, I'm too drunk to get sucked into an argument!

One of our fighters recently lost a professional fight on HD.net due to complications from a badly infected Cauli ear. I'm trying to stop it before it gets worse. Forgive me if I came across as hostile, you just have to understand that I take my training very, very seriously, and you know as well as I know that it wasn't just a simple question. It was loaded. If you train, you'll understand. Again, I'm sorry if my response was aggressive, but that's just how it is sometimes
