Default My First BJJ Event !! Help Need :p

So next month, i'm starting my career in bjj. Ok not something big but gonna start to go every month to events and try to beat every one else. I do bjj since 2 months now but I can see that some of older bjj dude in my class, who do this since more than 6months, that i'm better.

Now I will need to cut my weight to 185, because I don't want to compete in 205 , i'm only 190.

So I prepare myself. I start runing 3km a day, sometimes twices a day, and 1km is in vtt rail, so is like cross country. Still go to the gym and roll a lot with friend to be prepare.

But still there, i'm on the edge lol. I only want to know if anyone have advice to me? I know that i'm not gonna finish first. I'm going there to be at my best and give all that I have. And try to learn as much as I can. I really don't care if i'm last, because i'm gonna fight blue and purple belt, maybe brown too so.

So anyone have good advice for me and maybe told me what to do with my cut weight. Because the weight-in is the same day at the events, so right after what I need to do, drink a lot of juice, do nothing. The day before what I need to do, still train, go run, in the morning same thing?.

Let me know and every advice is very appreciate .

And my training partner have is first amateur mma fight this week-end .

If you want to cut weight and still be healthy EAT MORE!

not kidding... eat 6 meals a day with small portions of food! You also need to only eat carbs before work outs and porteen after. Salads are a good way to maintain this diet.... no iceburg lettuse though... also day or two before your match very small amounts of carbs and proteen if any at all. When you do make weight do drink to much to fast.... you will get sick. Drink a sip every other minute until you feel better... so like an hour or so... trust me you dont want to chug after a weight cut!

George is correct in many ways. Don't gulp to fluid replacement. If you're 190 already, 85 should be no problem. Start monitoring how much you "float" overnight. Meaning, how much weight do you lose while sleeping. Getting an idea of that will help. Many lose 1-2 lbs a night as norm, but I've seen some who drop almost 4 a night, thus they know they can be almost 5 over the night before and run a little in the morning to make weight.

There will be plenty of other advice coming, I'm sure.

I can speak for a lot of different BJJ events. Most never start on time and you may end up waiting a long time to fight depending on how large the event. I have found when cutting weight and rehydrating I usually drink water. I have found the power drinks and powerades cause cramps probably due to the sugar and the artificial stuff. I would try to stay away from those and stick with water. I find that it has worked for me.

Cool thanks for the info. And for my weight. I'm not regular, some day I weight 190 and before to sleep, 186. So it's always moving.

Gonna try what you said thx a lot

Good luck man...

Dont go into a tournament thinking you're not going to take first....I know mentally, it is hard...but seriously, think win...

My first tournament I went in being very nervous..Competing in front of hundreds/thousands of people including my family, close friends, training partners, etc... I came out with a silver medal...Mentally, for my next one, I am FULLY prepared...

It is A LOT of waiting around...9 am starting time turns into 11 am starting time....Depending on how big each division is, they can take over an hr each...

Also, for only 2 months of training, I dont know how wise it would be to go up against blue, purple, and brown belts...I know you're going in for experience, but that is too much imo....

Go into your beginner and novice white belt divisions..and if you aren't drained and feel you can compete in more, go into an intermediate division for white belts....

Most of all, have fun!! It is a GREAT experience...

You only got to cut five pounds so that should be super easy. I wouln't change your diet now to drop just five pounds, I'd just cut the weight.

As for the tournament, LABJJ put it best. There will be a lot of waiting around. It don't make sense that there isn't classes by belt. You have nothing to loose though! Go out, and and be smart, and have fun!

Last two events, they have maybe 10 fighter in each division. So they don't put a beginner level. So that why i'm going there and try to do my best only.

For sure I don't go there to finish last. But in life, sometimes you need to be real and I know if i'm with a purple belt. It's gonna be hard to take him. But if i'm able to defend myself. Great
