There is an entire book devoted to this strike, i linked to it at the very beginning. This is not a jab and its not a right straight. Its based on footwork speed and shifting your full bodyweight. Your feet are not stationary and i believe maximum power is attained when the rear foot is still off the ground. this strike is often considered at the core of JKD and obviously requires alot of practice to perfect.

I know JKD has the eye jab, which is a flicking open hand directed to the eyes.
It's damaging and easy relatively to do.

there is also the finger jab. Bruce was fond of this for its ease of use. Just bring your fingers together in a point and strike at the eyes. Lots of coordination and accuracy is required to hit the eye but very effective if you're quick.

no, it more of a body jab, since the whole body thrust forward into the jab.
so, the real power comes from the legs, and it can be followed up with via simultaneous offense/defense. remember, Bruce Lee's [no] style was meant to intercept, not just attack or counter.

I liked to use it as a scare tactic more than a direct attack. For instance, if I hit close to the eye, it spooks the other guy, hopefully into losing focus, and it benefits me (and spooks him more) letting me know I can take out his eye anytime.

OK the reason this is so powerful is because of the footwork behind it. When you are facing your opponent your front foot is at a 90 degree angle with your instep facing in towards your body. To move forward your slide your rear foot just behind you lead foot while maintaning contract with the ground. You then raise your lead foot and take a step out with it until your feet are shoulder width apart. Your rear foot propels you forward. Right before you make conact you "fall" forward onto your lead foot. This puts your full body weight plus the added force of gravity behind your lead hand. Even if it doesn't land your opponent has to react to it as there is so much power behind it. It also has quickly closed the distance allowing you to move into a trapping/grappling range.

And
the reason why it is so effective is because the stance protects you center line, making it hard for your opponent to attack with straight attacks. so the only way to attack is either the side attack or moving to the side. if they attack with a side attack(body blow, or hook) you can deflect and attack, perfect opportunity. if they move to the side, just adjust, and maybe do a side punch, eye jab for good measure.

Yes this stance is very defensive. I was refering to why the straight JKD is so poweful. You can quickly close the distance while placing your whole body into a strike with no need to cross your center line in any way.
