Against the cage...
What would you think is the most effective thing to do when you've got your opponent against the cage?
Wrestlers seem to like pinning their opponent against the cage and then taking advantage of their opponent's lack of movement and sprawlability to take them to the ground. Often times, instead of going to the ground, the opponent manages to escape.
I think a lot of people underestimate this position. What's the better position, being in your opponent's guard, or having him pinned against the cage?
It depends on your opponent, but if he's a Jiu Jitsu guy, or a well rounded MMA fighter, than chances are he has spent a great deal of time training for the ground.
How much time do you train having your back pressed against the cage? The only training like this I do is when I'm circling my punching bag, do to lack of room I end up too close to the wall, so I rest my back to it and throw punches, just to get used to swinging with my back against the wall.
A lot of people panic when they're pressed against the cage, and I think this is an excellent time to unload with some vicious attacks. This position advantage is enough that you can win the fight right then and there.
Check out King of the Cage Bantamweight Champion Urijah Faber, he LOVES this position. He presses his shoulder into his opponent, pinning him against the cage, waits for the opportune moment, and then backs up just a foot or two and unloads with a flurry of punches, leaning into his opponent as he does so, going back to that same pinning position. What better time to brawl then when your opponent has no footing and can't swing his body behind his punches?
Chris Leben we all know loves the foot stomp, which I can imagine is extremely painful. In fact I think this move should be illegal, because sooner or later somebody is gonna accidently break somebody's toes.

That's hilarious. Accidentally? When you're stomping on a guy's foot at that point in a fight, you'd like nothing better than to break his toes.
This is like saying kneebars and armbars should be illegal, because someone could get injured.

What!? You mean it's legal to stomp the guy's toes? Why do people only stomp the foot then? I just naturally assumed that because it never happens, it's illegal...

I don't think a ref's really going to be able to make the distinction between foot and toes when it's a heel slamming down suddenly during a clinch. Also, they might be stomping the foot because there's more chance of impeding movement that way. When I think of broken toes, I think of Bas Rutten talking about the difference between actual damage that will take you out of the fight, and something that merely hurts.

I think getting them at an odd angle stuck against the cage is the best, thats why when guys get stuck, more often nowadays, they spin really well away and push out away from the cage.
In the past guys like Tito and Randy were masters at throwing you up against that cage, getting your head stuck at a 45 degree angle, and theyd unload elbows and punches.
Now standing? I think kneeing your opponent up against the cage can do some major major damage. A lot of fighters are good at kneeing the guys who's backed up against the cage. Tito delivers knees all the time clinched with a guy pressed up against the cage.
The cage IMO is an underrated aspect of MMA fighting. It cuts off an escape for your opponent, and if you can effectively get the opponent stuck against one and not let him out? You can inflict some major major damage, or BRAMAGE as I like to call it on the guy.
I love Cages!

pressing a guy against the cage simply limits the number of option an opponent has to escape or mount an attack. the cage is especially effective against the BJJ guys who need alot of room to operate. pinned against the cage a BJJ fighters skills are negated, his sweeps will be ineffective, his attacks will be nearly nonexistent depending on his position against the cage. some fighters refer to the cage as the third man, he can either help you or hurt you depending on who is taking advatage of it. your best defense against the cage is to use it to get back to your feet like Chuck Liddel does.

If I got pinned against the cage I'd just try to jump up on um and body triangle the guy and just punch and elbow at his head till he gives me an opening to get the take down or drop into full gaurd.
