Default The Spinning Hook Kick

Stephan Bonnar attempted it in round 3 I think vs. Forrest in their first fight.

I used it alot in TKD tournaments and landed it all the time. It is a flash move and rarely executed properly. Many fighters telegraph the kick and the way I was taught it, it's not really that you're spinning, but turning around and then throwing it once your target is acquired.

The kick is a bitch and hurts if you've ever had one nail you in the head. I wonder has anyone besides me used it either when playing around or in competition/sparring etc. And why do you all think it's not used more?

I'd imagine it's not used alot because if you miss it or even land it but it doesn't knock the guy down you've given up your back and are setup for a brutal takedown.

Video of one in a TKD tournament.

Heres one in slower motion for a board break.

Both videos showed what's called telegraphing. They're picking their leg up too early and spinning too much, but the first kid had a lot of speed so it didnt matter, he landed a good hook.

If I figure out how to transfer some of my old TKD tourney's onto disc and maybe figure out how to DL it onto my puter, Ill share. I had some nasty spinning hook kids back in the day.

But no matter how good you are, you're going to miss at some point. In MMA that leaves you in a very bad position.

mt tkd is not very useful in mma so thats why its not used much the fighters want to win and tkd moves arent effective in real fights

As soon as I saw that in the tourney video, I was thinking "Shoot, shoot!"

I don't see that having much success in MMA.

I like the spinning hook. Not from the distance in the vid.
I use it from close in side. I wait untill I can get my head burried in to my opponents chest. Pushing forward, a couple of sloppy shots to the body then hook to the head behind the ear with the heal. Be ready for a take down. Use it to your advantage. Hope he holds on to your leg with both hands to attempt the take down. Take this opportunity of his dropped guard to land a backfist or elbow before you go down.
If you train for a take down with a partner, performing this hook becomes more graceful. If you get proficient at landing this close in, up and over hook, you don't have to worry much about a take down. You usualy just have to be ready to follow up. This is very cool to land this on top of the head. A good solid shot to the top of the head leaves your opponent wandering what just happened.
