K-1 HERO's signs Marcello Garcia
The Fight Network :: ALL FIGHTS ALL THE TIME :: Get it on!
Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenomenon and multi-time Abu Dhabi champion Marcelo Garcia has been announced as the newest acquisition of promoters Fight Entertainment Group, which hosts Saturday's K-1 "Dynamite!! USA" event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
A longtime crowd favorite on the grappling circuit, Garcia will make his mixed martial arts [debut] on September 17 in Japan. No opponent has been named for Garcia yet; while the Brazilian, who grapples at 170 pounds, has not decided if he will fight down at 155-161 pounds or up at 183 pounds per K-1's currently utilized weight divisions.

I can't believe I only just learned about this.
Amazing. Can't wait to see what the "Michael Jordan of grappling" can do in MMA.
His future opponents better work on their TD defense.

Let's not forget, Garcia has all of 0 MMA fights. He is an absolute stud in submission grappling and BJJ, but there's a world of difference when someone is trying to punch you in the face when you're in the guard. See Robert Traven and Marcio Cruz as examples. I am not downplaying Marcelo's skills as they are absolutely awesome, but the UFC should not be signing anyone with 0 MMA fights. He'll likely turn out to be very good, but let's see him in action against a quality opponent before annointing him the next superstar of MMA.
