Well, in a grand prix setup i can understand having less time to prepare, when DEEP has a grand prix the opponents are drawn in the ring prior to the tournament starting... but calling people last minute and giving guys potential opponents who pull out is pretty misleading. I think DEEPs system is fair because its an uncertianty for ALL entrants, rather than a select few.

Another name that has been attached by DSE to this Dreams Lightweight tournament may never have been available to begin with. Gilbert Melendez has been scheduled for a while to defend his Strikeforce World Lightweight Title in the co-main event of the Strikeforce Shamrock vs Le card on March 29th. Yet he's also scheduled for the Dreams tourney just 2 weeks before on the 15th, if you are to believe DSE's promotional material.
This may end up working for Dreams as Melendezs opponent for the 29th, Jorge Masidval, was injured in his fight this past weekend and has withdrawn. If Strikeforce does not find a replacement, it would allow Melendez to go overseas and fight for Dreams.
But its yet another example of promoting names that were never actually going to fight on their card.

Looks like Alvarez has been added to the card and he is facing Dida.
Five Ounces of Pain | 2008 | February | 28
Quote:
Eddie Alvarez confirmed to FiveOuncesOfPain.com (Five Ounces of Pain | Your Destination for Insider MMA News and Opinion) on Thursday afternoon that he has signed a contract to participate in DREAM’s lightweight Grand Prix.
DREAM, a collaborative effort between K-1’s HEROS and former staff members of PRIDE, will begin its tournament on March 15 in Japan. Alvarez stated that he is scheduled to fight Andre “Dida” Amade on that date during the tournament’s first round.
“The fight is 100 percent,” began Alvarez. “I just got a call from my manager, Monte Cox, everything is underway. Everything is approved and I will be heading over there (Japan) on the 10th to fight in the lightweight Grand Prix. I’m excited.”
Alavrez, who signed a three fight agreement with EliteXC in January, will be competing in DREAM with the promotion’s blessing.
“Monte (Cox) talked it over with EliteXC and EliteXC was happy to work with DREAM,” Alvarez responded when asked if special permission was needed to compete in a tournament that could require Alvarez to fight on three separate DREAM shows. “I’m sure they want to do business with them in the future so I’m sure they are more than happy to lend me over and let me do the fight.”
While Alvarez wasn’t positive as to when he would be fighting in the States again, he did indicate that a May date for a tentative EliteXC show in Atlantic City was possible. However, Alvarez was quick to add that he’s focused almost solely on making sure he advances into the second round of the DREAM tournament and that he has been training three times a day to ensure he can meet the lightweight requirements of 154 pounds.

At this point, we are 2 weeks out from the event and we know 4 official fights at this point with one scheduled though not official at this point.
Officially scheduled:
Shinya Aoki vs. Gesias "JZ" Calvancante
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kultar "Black Mamba" Gill
Joachim Hansen vs. Koutetsu Boku
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Luiz "Buscape" Firmino
Proposed:
Andre Dida vs Eddie Alvarez
I love the addition of Alvarez against a dynamite Andre Dida. But let's not forget this will be the first time Eddie has ever fought below 165lbs. And his last fight was his first ever at 165 since he had always been a 170lber. So he'll be facing a likely hostile crowd, cutting more weight than he ever had to, and dealing with fighting halfway across the world. He's only fought once outside the Western Hemisphere, when en he suffered his only loss against Nick Thompson. The cards are certainly against Alvarez.
I sure hope we hear more on who will actually be on the card. We're less than two weeks out at this point. I figured we'd know a little bit more by now. I'm sure the fighters themselves would like to know as well.

Looks like CroCop is fighting Nakao. If the name isn't recognizable right away by some, he is the guy who got KO'd after kissing Heath Herring in the staredowns in Pride. CC wanted a tune up fight and here it is.

Well, props to both guys for stepping up on 9 days notice.
I'm almost surprised the old DSE gave them this much time ahead to prepare. Then again, there's a good chance Nakao has not even been told yet that he's fighting next weekend, much less against CroCop.
This certainly helps the card immensely. Now if they can only finalize the Lightweight Tournament.
