Gilbert Yvel signs with DREAM
Quote:
Gilbert Yvel, one of the most infamous competitors in PRIDE’s storied history, will be returning to the Japanese MMA scene after signing a contract with DREAM, reports Stash Capar of The Fight Network.
Yvel’s contract with DREAM is for three fights, according to the report.
A debut date and a first opponent for Yvel has not been reported, but Capar indicates that an eventual showdown with former teammate Alistair Overeem appears to be on the horizon.
Yvel, a fighter who has been accused on multiple occasions of bending the rules, is 33-12-1 according to Sherdog’s fight finder. A native of Holland, the 32-year old Muay Thai specialist holds notable victories over the likes of Cheick Kongo, Akira Shoji, Fabiano Scherner, Semmy Schilt, Gary Goodridge and Tsuyoshi Koshaka.
He has also absorbed notable losses against big-name fighters such as Jeremy Horn, Roman Zentsov, Don Frye, Igor Vovchanchyn, Vitor Belfort, Kazuyuki Fujita, and Dan Henderson.
Yvel also fought to a no conest against Wanderlei Silva at PRIDE 11 in 2000 following a strike to the groin.

Most people probably wont care about this but I think Yvel's an exciting fighter. He's also got some sick gnp! There should be some good match ups for him in Dream, hopefully we'll get to see the fight with Overeem that never happened.

About as dirty as Bob Scriber but exciting at times.

A great talent who just also happens to be a prick. Certainly exciting, but his unpredictable behavior and previous actions have really tarnished his reputation. If i am not mistaken he's banned from fighting in the US.

He was denied a fighter's license by the NSAC when Pride tried to include him on one of their first US cards. When confronted by the commission about why he punched a ref and KO'd him, he was defensive about it and said the ref had it coming to him. Never mind the eye gouging of Don Frye and biting Karimula Barkalaev.
