Sapp a chicken???
i just read that Bob Sapp was supposed to fight Ernesto Hoost in a fight a month or so ago. when it came time for Sapp to fight he for some reason left the arena. luckily a replacement fighter stepped up, i believe Peter Aerts?? if i am wrong please correct me. i understand that he borrowed a pair of Semmy Shilt's shorts. they were a little baggy.

Youre correct. Supposedly there was a very last minute contract dispute between Sapp and K-1. They were overheard arguing and Sapp yelling at them just before he left the fight area. Not sure what the argument was all about. Peter Aerts was there to be a commentator and was asked to replace Sapp, to which he agreed. He did have to borrow Shilt's shorts for the fight and he lost via decision. Pretty damn ballsy thing to do I think, to take a fight on about a 30 minute notice and still take it to a decision. My hats off to Aerts for that one.

I wouldnt call him a punk at all.. the K-1 event promoters made threats on his life even.
"...As days pass and the event approached, Sapp is of the climate that all will be worked out. The day before the fight, Mr. Sapp approaches the K-1 attorney (Toru) to ask him where the new contract is. The attorney was, in prior days, very personable, light-hearted and optimistic about the current situation. When Bob inquired further, he was told in no uncertain terms, that he did not know what was going on with the contract and to leave him “the F*** alone!” He further stated, “look Bob, I’m not your friend, this is not a friendship, it is business and that is just the way it goes. I will let you know when I know something.” Mr. Sapp was visibly and emotionally disturbed and insulted by the mentality that he just been exposed to. It was apparent to him that distance was being placed between himself and the organization. Mr. Sapp always felt that his relationship with K-1 was more than just a business relationship; he had after all been more than generous in the past with K-1 helping them promote at no cost to them. “The “Beast” promotions were promoted on the shoulders of Sapp and had done very well because of that, he had even made sure that each of the participants were very well taken care of, to the lengths of offering them items such as flat screen TVs, DVD players and digital cameras, independent of the purses. It was out of his own pocket, and he felt a fierce loyalty to the organization and wanted the athlete’s to be treated as professionals.”"

He had no contract on the day of the fight and they wanted him to sign a blank contract. I like to poke fun at Sapp and I thought it was pretty weak of him to walk out like that, but when I found out why I completely understood.

he put his hands on Toru, and yelled at him... he is lucky to have gotten out of the area alive.

The waitress at KFC would have to be on roids to pass that bucket of chicken over the counter.

I agree.. Sapp was very well spoken and articulate and he elaborated quite a bit leaving NO question in my mind as to who the guily party was (K-1).

I think that a lot of people assumed Sapp was either a bit uneducated or a bit nuts because of his antics and persona he put forward while in K-1. After seeing the clip of him talking to the LeBanner doll and chewing it apart, I can understand how people come to those conclusions. I think that Sapp gets his point across very well and is well spoken. Its a shame he has retired, I would like to see him possibly come back to the states and participate in MMA here.

Sapp is way smarter than a lot of the people that are bashing him. I was a bit upset when I first heard about all this and I'm glad I waited to hear what happened instead just start saying he walked out so he sucks.
It does suck he had to retire but it's not like he isn't set for life. He was probably set for life within his first few fights. But he isn't going to be able to fight anymore so that sucks for him. He's got a future as an entertainer though. I see more "Sapp Time!" and pro-wrestling for The Beast.

It's really confusing. If you would have listened to the Beatdown episode he was on...well it would still be confusing but you'd have an idea. All the stuff he talked about was really crazy, things like how K1 was his employer and manager (which is illegal in the USA) and they are trying to sue him over his contract but they are the managers so he was saying "Who are they going after?" and things like that. The parts I remember was Bob signed a 20 fight contract (I think) and he honored that contract but the problem was he did it more quickly than K1 wanted I guess because he became so popular. He was getting very expensive to them because of that so that's where problems started up. Bob said that he offered to do the Hoost fight for free but to get out of the contract deal so he could just walk away. Like I said though it's way confusing. You'd have to hear it yourself.
If you would have heard the interview though you'd be surprised at how Sapp really is and how much of a difference his on-screen persona is.

Legal reasons. I forgot to say that before. All these legal problems have "forced" him to retire as he said.
