Question Youth training advice sought

Hey all, This is a great forum. I'm looking forward to it's continued growth.

I may be a little off topic because the focus here is on pro sports, but my son's (6 and 9yrs old) are really getting into watching boxing and I'd like to help them get started themselves. We love physical individual sports. I was a high school wrestler and stayed in shape later with karate but I don't know anything about amature boxing. I can't afford to send them both to karate or boxing classes(even if we had a local gym) but I'd love to get some gloves and a bag and let them practice. Is there a book or helpful website that provides guidence for training youth boxers?

Thanks for any advice that you can give,

Steve

Make sure to check with the local YMCA.. they usually offer free boxing and lately some have offered free kenpo or other form of karate.

If you can't find anything out there, let me know and I will ask my friend who teaches Shodokan to children.. he is a 3rd degree blackbelt so I can guarentee you that he will know something.

(he was also my sparring partner in Dallas before I moved, so if he wont give me the information I will beat the information out of him!)

Lorain Ohio is the nearest large city to me. Lots of karate around here for $$$ but I like the idea of free boxing. I'll look for a "Y". In the meantime I'll probably pickup a couple pairs of gloves and let them have at it. I'd still like to find a beginners book to help me get them started right and safely.

Thanks guys,

Steve
