Opinions and forum etiquette
This forum seems to be full of 2 kinds of people. Those who state their opinion, and those who bash them for it. I'm sick of reading 'IMHO" or 'its just my opinion!' or 'just my thoughts!'.
This self - justification is unnecessary. Of course its your opinion - why else would you say it? Are you posting for someone else? Having to justify your opinion is just a waste of everybody's time. I'm not interested in reading about how someone is just pointing out that what they said is their opinion. OF COURSE ITS YOUR DAMN OPINION. Stating so is just pointless because the same assholse are going to grab their mouse and thump out a post telling you so. If you dont mean to be offensive I recommend writing in a manner that suggests this - or even use one of those horrible smileyfaces if you have to but please please please dont try and make a point and then state that its only your opinion - it negates the entire purpose of the post, and rarely avoids the invitable prick from bashing.
Surely there is a way around this. If someone says something you dont like, let them know if you have to. But for christs sake dont waste everyone's time by pointing out that different people have different opinions and each to his own blah blah blah. This is a forum where intelligent and not so intelligent debate takes place.
I would write here that I dont mean to offend any forum regulars as a noob - but then wouldn't that simply contradict my post? Hmm.

i totally agree. preach it brother. im tired of seeing the member bashing -- its what made me think twice about signing up here. some people take others' posts way too seriously sometimes, and it can lead to misunderstanding. all i'm saying is that some people should be a little more friendly to others.

First off, welcome to FF. Secondly, I disagree. Saying "imho" or "imo" whatever, simply states that this is just what YOU think and you aren't saying it's necessarily right. You are acknowledging that what you are saying others might not agree with but that's okay because everyone is different. Everyone does have opinions that differ and thats what makes this such a great place, please don't dilute the waters by ******** and trying to start conflict.

Me too! Stating IMO just means you understand that what your are saying is not FACT. Some people think their opinion is fact ie: "Chuck is the best striker ever seen in any sport!" Different people express themselves differently, and thats good because otherwise we'd all be the same. How boring would that be?

Agreed yet again.. if your skin is so thin as to be offended by someone stating what they think is only what they think and therefore not speaking for everyone else, you can always go to an authoratarian regeime.

I my humble opinion.
I think you have a point. I dont totally agree. Because messing with each other about our opinions is what makes it all fun. And that's what the internet is all about. Having fun and debating. It's an entertainment tool. I agree with Aika also that to be offended by someone else saying something about someone elses opinions that are not shared by everyone else is something that no one else totally agrees with all the time with everyone else.
Know what I'm sayin?

I wasn't ********...
Maybe I should have put IMHO before I wrote that huh. I think I just proved my point by seeing the responses. But thats just my opinion!
Yes its important to distinguish between what you think and what is fact as someone pointed out - but if you really think that when someone says something and that a) they believe it is fact because they said it and b) they said it so it must be fact (yes these are two different things) then I would suggest that your opinion should not be changed just because theirs is different. And if your skin is thin and you take things personally then maybe thats a bit extreme.
However, I am impressed with this forum in general, and am not out to make any enemies/********/whatever so i'll shut up in the interest of not offending anyone. Thanks for the replies guys.
Cheers

i think the main thing that gets frustrating is just that some people just figure that getting all mad and typing one line worth of "no yur wrong cuz i'm right and hes leik so totallie da best *******!" is just fine and dandy when you've typed out 2 paragraphs of reasons why you think the way you do.
it's really disappointing when what you write really falls generally on deaf ears.
thankfully duke and george read my posts.

Just my opinion but, I think some people probably agree and some people might not, but I'm not sure anyone else thinks that, imho.
