Perhaps the whole 10/1 yes/no system is the issue... since as others have mentioned it only takes one or two people's biased/uninformed no votes to cut someone from the Hall of Fame who really should have made it. What if it was based simply on the most number of yes votes? E.g. The five with the most yes votes makes the HofF for instance. Also, there are some people missing from the polls who I would like to see up there. Even if there are about 20 people to vote for, that ensures nobody is left out. Just a suggestion.

Well, I wanna thank everyone for voting, nominating and giving feedback.
I recieved several complaints about the system, the way the HoF thingy is supposed to be, and I agree: the idea totally sucks. The polls show how sucky it is in its fullest suckyness.
Seriously, we need to work something out, something that works, is fair and makes the majority happy. I will get back to you asap.

Maybe just show the votes people make with thier name with a reason . That will take away alot of the no votes against people. I voted no for 2 people but some might say I have no right to vote but atleast im honest.
Edit: Im not gonna make another post out of this but, thats correct bull and I understand its kinda how I feel about the FF survivor game.

I appreciate your input, but this is never going to turn out well.
Either people do not dare to vote against someone, as they will find out then. Or they do dare, so ... flame wars sooner or later.

What about putting together a "HoF committee" of mods and other well respected members and having a private vote?

Or just making it the mods decide? That 2 me sounds like the best outcome for this.

This is what I just posted in the other HoF thread:
Quote:
This is something Ive been thinking about since the mods put this up....
Ive come to the conclusion that the vote should have been public, as in everyone should have been able to see who voted what. I know some of you might say "oh no, cant do that...it will make people feel intimidated to vote yes when they might have voted no." Well, that is a valid point, but not a good point. This isnt some joke or for fun vote. Its to see who goes into our beloved FightForum's first Hall of Fame induction class. If people want to vote no, then they are more than able to do so. However, if they vote a "no", then they should have to be prepared to say why they voted no, what reason(s) they have for voting no, and should be prepared to defend the "no" vote if asked about it.
This stuff like "well, he called me a noob once in a post" or "he never agrees with me or is always asking me to not type in all caps so I voted no" just doesnt cut it. If you have the nads to vote a no on something like this then you should have the nads to pony up and say why you did so, especially sinces its a vote thats open to the enitre forum membership and its only taking one to three no votes to knock someone out.
You guys might not agree with me but when I look at the voting results, it makes me really wonder at just who was voting and what kind of members we have here.
|
Now, that being said: I think this could work, the idea of the HoF. Just make sure that people know in advance that uncalled for flames against people who vote one way or the other can result in a temp ban or something. Everyone should have the right to vote the way they want but be prepared to say why. Thats pretty simple I believe.
OR::
The mods could pick a pannal of members from the forums, an anonymous group maybe. It could be made up of both members and mods alike. Then you could open a new thread and have people nominate a max of 5 people. Then the panal could debate the top five or ten or however many there are. After the panal decides on who goes in and who doesnt, another thread can be posted with who made it and why and a list of who didnt and why. I think this would be the most transparancy in the system and would work well with the forums.
Just my two cents though...

A small panel would be a great idea I think. Then maybe people instead of voting who gets in, they should vote on the whatever # of people who should be sent to the panel.

I suggest a HoF Committee, the members should consist of the oldest 10, 2005ers. Every year, the comittee inducts somebody into the HoF, and also a new member to join the HoF Committee.
That way, the committee will grow, gradually, one member a year. Eventually the committee will not only consist of 2005ers, but also of 2006ers, 07ers, etc. If one of the members steps down, a new member gets voted in. The decision by the Committee, to induct a member into the HoF will always be assured to be well thought out, because the 2005ers have been here since the beginning. I say, 5 should get inducted into the Hall of Fame each year. A prize should also be given to the inductee, maybe 500,000 points, or entrance to the HoF forum, etc.

500,000 POINTS!? sounds cool, the FF banks will have to print up some extra points though lol... i agree with your idea, it makes it all more legit and more special... maybe just start with putting the mods in there?

Yeah, those pesky mods.
If it wasn't for them, you'd be a shoo-in.

1) The mods dont hate you.
2) Its not a contest to win or a right you have by being a member, its a privalege you have to earn.
3) Do some self-evaluation concerning your past posts and past behavior on the forums and ask yourself if what you just posted is really true or not.
