Default Worst stoppage ever !

Steve Mazzagotti made possibly the worst call I have ever seen in MMA during the Whitehead / Tiger White fight in the IFL. Whitehead was hitting White in the back of the head and mostly on Whites gloves, no damage was being done. Whitehead said,"he's tapping", which he clearly was not and Mazzagotti stops the fight. I am not a big IFL fan but I do like Tiger White and I think he was robbed big time. Mazzagotti dropped the ball in a huge way with this call. Any one see this fight ? Any opinions on Steve as a ref ?

i didn't see the fight so i can't comment on it directly, but refs make mistakes sometimes. they are people and people make mistakes.
steve is doing a great job in my opinion. but i have been really pissed at refs while watching fights. just gotta remember that they have to make split second decisions and some times they make the wrong one

I think it was a bad call too but White really wasn't doing anything to get out of the situation.

Edit: Also I think Steve is a great ref!

The stoppage was every bit Tiger White's fault as it was the ref. Whitehead did the smart thing and acted like he was delivering more punishment than he was and stated so to the ref.

Now, I think it was a bit weird and it was a bad precident for the ref to listen to the fighter to that extent and then stop the fight.

That being said, White was simply laying there and taking shots. He was not making much movement at all and didnt look to be defending himself intelligently at all. Just turtleing up with your hands on your head is not an intelligent defense. If the fight was stopped, it wsa for that reason. I cant say that it was stopped early due to Whites lack of defense.

1) i like tiger white... tough dude, no doubt

2) i like steve, although i do miss teh stache lol

3) in terms of early stoppages, it shows 2 thing, both of which i really like: 1) the refs really are concerned about fighters well being --even a terrible call and early stop is better than seeing a fighter, any fighter, get hurt, and 2) that there is little chance that a fighter will be seriously harmed in the cage/ring. with the momentum and popularity that mma is getting as of late, we certainly dont need a serious injury from a bad 'no-call'.

4) and as vegas said, refs are people and are subject to the same affliction we all suffer from: they are human

Great points by all. Safety is paramount, it just seemed quick. The sport does need to protect its fighters, one Do Koo Kim incident would really set it back.

Duk Koo Kim, his life story was summed up in a movie called Champion, which is freaking excellent and I advise any fight fans to check it out.
