Default Monte Cox's stable of fighters

Check out the list of fighters Monte Cox manages. A lot of big UFC names.

I think we might see Ben Rothwell and Mike Whitehead in M-1 pretty soon considering all the problems they're having with the IFL.

Ok, I am confused. Isn't Matt H. Rich F., Tim S. and others signed with the UFC?

You're right mxfuel. They are signed to the UFC, but they are managed by Monte Cox.

Regardless of that list, many of them are signed with the UFC and won't be fighting in M-1. Not until their contracts run out.

Good find Pit. If Monte were able to take even half of those fighters to M-1 the UFC would have some major competition.

i don't see it the same way. If Monte Cox is manager of all these fighters you're looking at a major conflict of interest if even a few of them go to M-1. You can't run a promotion and simultaneously manage even a handful of its fighters. talk about the possibilty for scandal, corruption and favoritism.

Crashti is correct again. While he is the manager of those fighters, its likely that most of them will be released from their management contracts. In most states with a sanctioning body, its against the rules to both manage and run a promotion. It harkens back to when Dana White was the manager of Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell among others. When he became part of Zuffa in buying the UFC from SEG, he had to give up his managerial role with those fighters.

Now the rules differ from area to area, which is why Monte has been able to run his small promotion in Iowa for years. But if they are attempting to be the global company they hope to be, I'm not sure Monte will be able to retain his managerial role with his current CEO role within M-1 Global.

Although managerial ties will be broken he will still have ties nonetheless. I think that we will start to see more UFC fighters making the jump to M-1 once their contracts run out, especially if they are making much more lucrative offers than the UFC.

Thats the way I saw it as well. Monte Cox won't be able to manage the fighters and run M-1, but he has already formed relationships with these guys.

Monte Cox may have formed relationships with these fighters but that does'nt mean that the UFC can't match or better possible M-1 contracts. the UFC has'nt been dishing out the huge paychecks for a reason. They've been playing its smart and not getting involved in bidding wars. besides, M-1 has'nt even put on any events yet. I am sure that Dana White, being the control freak he is has been watching closely and already has a plan in place to deal with potential problems M-1 could pose.

Before he became CEO of M-1.. Monte Cox and Dana White stated many times that they hate each other.. Even since the days Dana was a manager to Ortiz and Liddell.. But, Cox was cool with the UFC match maker, Joe Silva!! So the fighters weren't affected at all!

But now, Cox will be promoting a global fighting organization which has the potential to be the main competitor to the UFC.. So lots of conflicts of interest are in there.. Beside that it will be against the rules (I just knew that)..

So I see Cox giving up on his roster of fighters as White did when Zuffa bought the UFC.. And I don't know what the fighters are thinking or planning for right now! Whether it's finding a new manager or moving to M-1..

I guess we'll have to wait and see!!

My position isn't that M-1 will definetly grow to size of being able to compete with the UFC or will definetly offer more lucrative deals.

The relationships are there, the possibilities exist for fighters to make jumps, and only time will tell what inevitably transpires.

No doubt the possibilty exists. However, are current UFC fighters willing to risk making that move? Dana White has been none to kind to fighters who jump ship and burn bridges. Not to mention that M-1 has absolutely no track record. who knows if they can even survive beyond a few events. what would a fighter do if they went M-1 only to have the promotion fail? the UFC is unlikely to take you back under favorable terms.

All very interesting scenarios. We shall see.

yes we shall see. Hopefully M-1 can bring something new to the table. Competition for the UFC tends to create better product and higher payouts for fighters.

They could always try tag-team MMA and battle royal MMA, LOL. Seriously, I just don't think that M-1 will make a dent in the MMA market for quite a few years. Maybe five years before they can adequately compete with the UFC. And the UFC has been growing steadily and I don't think that will change.

i think you're right. it will take M-1 awhile to get going, you don't build an MMA brand overnight. however they have one big piece of the puzzle and thats Fedor. If the possibilty exists to build a promotion around one fighter,
M-1 has it. It has its risks though. M-1 is putting all its eggs in one basket. Should Fedor lose, or get injured what do they have? Its pretty obvious that Fedor is the only reason M-1 has generated any buzz at all. without him they're just another upstart promotion looking for a little piece of the MMA pie.

Monte Cox was on the Savage Dog Show earlier today.. He was talking about his main concern these days is to secure a great TV deal so they can sell M-1 out..

He mentioned that they are getting A LOT of meetings with big TV networks with interesting offers.. With possible reality shows among other ideas and stuff..

I wondered.. What if they get a deal with HBO???

I think that would be SO HILARIOUS!!! Don't you think??
