If nothing else, Jens Pulver can say his relationship with B.J. Penn has been civil.
Granted, at times it’s been a civil war, whether they’ve competed in the Octagon, a wrestling mat, or in the most emotional ping-pong match in television history.
As Pulver embarks on a new journey tonight in his World Extreme Cagefighting debut against Cub Swanson, don’t make the mistake of thinking it represents a career rebirth. That happened six months ago -- and he has Penn to thank for it.
“Me and B.J. were in the same boat just before that fight,” said Pulver, referring to their June 23rd bout at the Ultimate Fighter 5 finale. Indeed, Penn had suffered consecutive losses to Matt Hughes and George St. Pierre, perhaps the best welterweights on earth. Tonight, Pulver will make his WEC debut after suffering losses to Penn and Joe Lauzon.
