Default Fedor VS Pedro Rizzo *Rumour*

An article I read today.

I know it's a rumour, but if it's true,Fedor is becoming a circus act just like his opponents.

That’s the good word, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer:
Monte Cox and the M-1 crew are in Dallas today in a closed-door meeting with Art of War to finalize a Fedor Emelianenko vs. Pedro Rizzo fight that would tentatively take place in Las Vegas in April. Money terms have been agreed and the meeting is to finalize a deal and sign the contracts.

Well, for those who thought Fedor might be going to Chicago, your dreams have been crushed. For those who seriously thought he might fight Josh Barnett, your dreams have been crushed as well. Pedro Rizzo? How underwhelming. First, we’re going to see Fedor beat up on Hong Man Choi (allegedly) and then Pedro Rizzo?

It continues to get harder and harder to defend Emelianenko as the best fighter in the world. Rizzo was badly beaten by Sergei Kharitonov at PRIDE Critical Countdown 20005 and I expect a fight with Fedor to go the exact same way. Standing up, Rizzo eating bombs, and eventually going down hard in the first round.

And then what’s next for Fedor? If he and M-1 care about preserving his credibility, he needs to beat someone relevant. That someone is Randy Couture, obviously, but he’s off the market. The next best thing is Josh Barnett and M-1 needs to do everything in their power to make that fight happen. It will only get harder to defend him as the consensus #1 fighter in the world until he fights someone relevant.

This is a much better fight than the HMC fight, but I agree, Fedor should be fighting someone ranked higher than Rizzo.

I disagree that a Rizzo fight would be a circus fight tho. It was only a couple of months ago that Rizzo KO'd Jeff Monson. Monson had only ever been TKO'd once before that fight (against Ricco in 2002), which isnt bad considering he's fought Sylvia, Liddell, Fujita etc etc so imo thats a big win for Pedro that puts him back in the HW picture.

That being said, i still think Fedor would destroy Rizzo.

I did not know that he had beat Monson. I dont think Rizzo is nowhere near top level talent and many will say that this is the story on Fedor. Title defenses against sub par talent.

To be fair, Rizzo is the Art of War HW champion.

Fedor said he wanted to fight the champs from other orgs and this fight would be just that.

Its not as good as a fight with Randy, but I wouldnt call Rizzo sub-par talent.

Oh I didn't realise he had beaten Monson. Maybe not a circus act then, that was a bit harsh, lol.

I still see this as being a very easy fight for Fedor.

A step in the right direction, just not a big enough step IMO.

I don't think Rizzo stands much of a chance either, but he can strike. And, if Fujita can rock Fedor than Pedro Rizzo definetly could do the same. Nothing's a given in mma.

Man, you guys need to show Rizzo some more respect.

Rizzo holds notable wins over Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Tank Abbott, Mark Coleman, Jeff Monson, Dan Severn and Ricco Rodriguez. He is a four-time Brazilian Muay Thai champion with a record of 31-0-1 (30 KO) in kickboxing. Trained by Vale Tudo legend Marco Ruas, Rizzo has adopted Ruas' brutal leg kicks and has developed strong stand up fighting and used this to great effect in the cage. A stint in PRIDE FC didn't go too well for the former UFC Heavyweight Title contender, and Rizzo suffered quick losses at the hands of Sergei Kharitonov and Roman Zentsov.

Rizzo returned to his winning ways on the 9th March, 2007 when he beat UFC veteran Justin Eilers by unanimous decision at the début show of Art of War Undisputed Arena Fighting Championships, which was held in Dallas, Texas.

He defeated Jeff Monson on September 1, 2007. This fight took place on the first pay-per-view event promoted by the Art of War organization.

I still think Rizzo should be an easy win, even with the recent wins you mentioned.

Yes he has beaten those names, but I think Fedor is far too well rounded for Rizzo. I predict Fedor would stand and trade for a short while, then go for the take down. Then he would either submit Rizzo or ground and pound.

Guess it's too bad you're not Fedor's Manager.

could be an interesting fight if Rizzo is back in shape, unlike when he fought at CC2005

Monson not top 10?????????
Fedor should fight whoever he wants. If that is Pedro then fine.
Pedro is one of the best guys out there. How come he i so much "over the top"?
His statestic is nice and he just beat Monsen who I belive is a top 10.
You could have said the same about Randy a year ago to but he got the chanse and won. Who knows? Maybe Pedro will suprice you.

Most Def. I love bio stories on fighters. Esp fighters from Russia. Such a rough climate there that mandates anyone from there be just physicall tough.

Kinda like a neverending Rocky IV training story.

Lol. Good article.

Great Article, and thanks for the post Krav. This article highlights why I am a HUGE Fedor fan.

And THIS v is why I am not a fan of Dana and Zuffa.

"The contract that we were presented with by the UFC was simply impossible, couldn't be signed -- I couldn't leave. If I won, I had to fight eight times in two years. If I lost one fight, then the UFC had the right to rip up the contract. At the conclusion of the contract, if I am undefeated, then it automatically extends for an as yet unspecified period of time, though for the same compensation.

"Basically I can't leave undefeated. I can't give interviews, appear in films or advertising. I don't have the right to do anything without the UFC's agreement. I could do nothing without the OK from the UFC. I didn't have the right to compete in combat sambo competition. It's my national sport. It's the Russian sport, which in his time our president competed in, and I no longer have the right to do so. There were many such clauses; the contract was 18 pages in length. It was written in such a way that I had absolutely no rights while the UFC could at any moment, if something didn't suit them, tear up the agreement. We worked with lawyers who told us that it was patently impossible to sign such a document."
