Since the entire MMA community is discussing it: 8 Year olds fighting.
Do you approve? Do You not?
This is a gross display of officiation. The ref should be barred from ever refing an MMA bout ever again. This thing should have been over early in the first round. This is an example of how not to hold one of these fights (if you were to).
Now, I personally don't mind younger guys going into MMA but they should be required to follow a different set of rules.
1.6oz gloves instead of 4oz.
2.No striking to the head.
3.Headgear.
4.Minimum age of 14 anything under is just wrong. Children are fragile and are still developing.
ect ect...
How do you feel?

Good topic--But it reminds me of when I put my daughters in softball at 6&8, and they had no clue about competition.
1 was making dirt castles, and the other was picking flowers while fielding. My wife, and I are screaming ( pay attention).Yea so I agree 100% that age is a deciding factor
moreso than rules.

I don't think anyone should be fighting under 14-15 years old, they are still developing and I think that fighting can be a VERY heavy load on the young developing minds. Also, How was that fight a split decision?!? (yea sadly I watched it to the end)

In most amateur boxing matches they are required to wear head gear. There really was no safety equipment for these kids. The fight should have been called in the first round. I did not find it entertaining at all. The children were way too young in my opinion. MMA is the aquisition of skill and training that takes years of wrestling,jj, or whatever martial arts you try to master. How much training and experience can two six or seven year olds have. I did not really see the point of the parents putting their kids in that ring.

There are too many things to list that say it is just wrong. This definitely does not paint MMA in a good light.

This also completely strays from the original purpose of exposing your children to the martial arts. The mentality that each discipline offers is completely lost, leaving only the knowledge of how to hurt someone.

Kids fight in Karate tournaments at a much younger age. I would like to see better precautionary measures than just rule changes, like heavier gloves and headgear maybe, but don't really have a problem with it.

MMA is a tough sport where most fighters have short careers, usually just a few years. So why then would anyone feel it necessary to have 8 year old compete in basically a full on MMA match? They have plenty of time ahead of them to train and then make an educated decision about whether they really want to be fighters. You could take it another step and ask yourself how it effects these kids mentally? Are they mature enough to understand that fighting is'nt something you use in everyday situations. traditional schools focus heavily on using learned skills wisely and with restraint. I am not sure these kids are getting those lessons alongside their physical training.
